The main character is Ray, what a man! Ray is a man who really knows how to react in life for sure. He is a strong yet smart man who has had a tough life, consequently he is a tough man with a very particular sense of justice.
Parsons is a mob. Jude St. Onge is an addict who took a bunch of parsons dope, and ran away leaving her daughter Angelina who is kidnapped by Parsons, and her mother, Arianna, is brutally killed in front of the girl in order to get a bunch of dope back from Jude. This man, Jude, found Ray by chance, and this became a fact that saved her daughter's life. Jude may be killed, that is for you to discover reading the book, but Ray will make sure Angelina gets a better life.
Ray paid the kidnapper mob, Parsons, with the same coin by kidnapping his children. two lovely boys who actually never realized they were kidnapped and Ray was their father's enemy, They were actually the "Children of the Enemy". Once he got Angelina back, he will deliver back the boys, but Ray will also make sure that Parsons doesn't hurt any other girl again.
I won't tell you the end, I will just state that it is unexpected. I liked it... I strongly recommend "Children of the Enemy" if you like to read good thriller stories, this is one the best thrillers I have ever read.
This is a well-written book and the characterization, especially Ray, is compelling. From the minute Jude St. Onge encounters Ray, I was fascinated by Ray, his actions and his motivations. He's like an archangel gone off course, bringing mercy, redemption and fiery justice all at once.
This book is not for the faint of heart, however. It's raw, and at times very violent. The story wouldn't ring true otherwise; the author solemnly shows the reader that people like Swallow exist and they do things most of us don't even want to think about.
The story is well paced and moves at a fairly good clip through the events, giving the reader the opportunity to take a good look at the window into the lives of the characters and the events as they unfold. It wasn't a can't-put-it-down read for me, but I also wanted to keep reading, and I was surprised when I realized I was almost done.
I have to say something about this cover. It's the only thing about the book that's really ugly; try not to judge the book by it. Maybe the author means for it to be ugly, because it's kind of an ugly story he's telling. Overlook it - the writing is better than the amateurish cover.
I finished the book hoping that Ray actually will be able to take Edward fishing in the summer. If you really like a raw, edgy story that's character driven, then I can absolutely recommend this book.
Dope dealer and user, Jude St. Onage cut Parsons out of their deal and took the dope then split Detroit in a blaze of white snow, but a pothole bent his tire as he drove too fast. Jude was in the middle of nowhere and he needed a car otherwise he was dead meat when Parson's enforcer, Swallow, caught up with him. The he saw smoke and headed to it and ruined his expensive shoes as he walked to the trailer that had tons of junk around the yard...............
D. J. Swykert pens a dark and terrible story but it is a fact of life that occurs in any society with dope that steals the souls of humans addicted to it. Ray Little was a fix-it man and an ex-con that crushed a man's windpipe when the man threaten his family, his wife divorced him while he was in jail and took their daughter but he wasn't mad at her and knew she deserve better so when a man knocked on his door with the shakes he knew it wasn't from the cold. Jude's actions affected more than himself in ways he never thought about until Ray showed him what he was giving up........
Children of the enemy is a book which dealt with a lot of painful subjects, drugs, criminals and kidnapping. The book is professionally written and descriptive of the situations. As a result, it kept me engaged and pretty much involved from the beginning until the end. It shows that the author has incredible talent, and I am looking forward to reading more of his books.
Many aspects are presented therein in a very senseful and authentic way, such as the very little value of human life among people involved in the drug world. The language was very friendly and flowing. Once I started reading, I could not stop, and I finished it within a very short time. Fascinating, and highly recommended.
