Children Just Like Me: A new celebration of children around the world Hardcover – Illustrated, September 6, 2016
Purchase options and add-ons
Highlighting 36 different countries, Children Just Like Me profiles 44 children and their daily lives. From rural farms to busy cities to riverboats, this celebration of children around the world shows the many ways children are different and the many ways they are the same, no matter where they live.
Meet Bolat, an eight-year-old from Kazakhstan who likes to cycle, play with his pet dogs, and play the dromba; Joaquin from New Jersey who enjoys reading and spending time with his family, and whose favorite food is bacon; or Yaroslav from Moscow who likes to make robots. Daily routines, stories of friends and family, and dreams for the future are spoken directly from the children themselves, making the content appropriate and interesting to draw in young readers.
To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of this special project, all-new photography, maps, and facts give unique insight to children's lives in our world today showing their homes, food, outfits, schools, families, and hobbies.
A passport to a celebratory journey around the world, Children Just Like Me is perfect for children who are curious about the children of the world and their stories.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2021Lots of colorful pictures of other children around the world giving a glimpse into life as a child in their respective countries. I gave this book to my grandson for Christmas last year along with an illuminated globe, and he loved them both (a very advanced 3 year old). The book breaks down the world by continents and has a decent sampling of children from each. This book is a great introduction to children about how children all around the world basically want the same things; love, a safe home, education, freedom and time for fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2022I mom got the first addition of this book (originally put out by UNICEF) for my daughters when they were young -- this second edition is great too. The kids are fun and it is a top-notch way to learn about families around the globe.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2018My 7 year old daughter absolutely LOVES this book - she sits to read it and look through every single day! We have the updated version (apparently updated by over 20 years) and she loves to see their signatures, how they say hello, what their families, homes and schools look like. Even for kids too young to read just yet, it's great to look through (and teach a little diversity!). Already bought a second copy to gift to my 6 year old niece.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2024The book itself is beautiful, but it was upsetting that there is no Ukrainian kid , and the Russian one enjoys to go to Odessa in a summer. WTF !!! I understand the book was published in 2016, but Ukraine has is independent country since 1991. Was it so difficult to make this book with extra 10 more pages and recocnize MORE beautiful kids !?
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2017I love this book. While it is targeted at the 7 to 10 age range, I used it to introduce my four-year-old grandson to the concept of different cultures. He loves looking at the different children in the book, seeing how they write their names (something he is learning to do), seeing interests that he shares (music, soccer) and noting differences. For his pre-K class he had to do a poster about his parents' cultures and this was the perfect introduction to get him exciting about and interested in that project.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2020My 7 year old granddaughter loves this book. It educates her on children in her age range from different countries, cultures and ethnicities. It has really peaked her interest in world geography and other cultures. It is so important for our youth to recognize and celebrate our differences. This book achieves that.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2017My daughter loves this book! The pictures are beautiful and each page has interesting information about that country with relatable details that help you see how much we have in common with people around the world. I appreciate that they show a variety of family structures. Most families shown have two parents and two kids, but there are some examples of families with one child or many children and some families with a single parent.
