Nice tension as Eros saves Harmonie....nicely unique, as are the princesses' powers (it's good that they don't work perfectly right away). Harmonie and her fellow princesses are nicely drawn and believable. There are many lovely or clever touches: the description of the sky, stars, and sea on page 8; the bad Children using the Internet to find Harmonie through happy places; Clever Clam living the events he teaches. The theme of love and peace versus war is a good one, as is the need to use one's skills to help others while avoiding overconfidence.

- Barbara Mojica said "This early chapter book is perfect for children ages six through ten. It does not portray wimpy princesses, but strong, respectful and independent female role models involved in many adventures in which they learn to overcome their weaknesses, act against bullying, and cooperate with friends and family to promote human welfare and peace. Short chapters interspersed with illustrations will maintain interest if the book is read aloud for younger children. Introduce your little princess to this one."
- Murielle Cyr said: "PJLarue's children's book, The Mystic Princesses and The Whirlpool, belongs on any parent's or teacher's favourite read-aloud shelf. Having taught young children for many years, I can vouch it would be popular for youngsters starting out in their reading career. The setting transports you to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands where sandy beaches, coral reefs and rainbows make up the playground for the young girls. The princesses are all gifted with special powers, but they must learn to use these with care or harm will follow. Important life lessons are learned through play with the colourful playmates.... A book, both educational and entertaining."
