COVID-19 Updates: Dear Customer, This is extreme time to travel to China; it is essential to have a local Chinese SIM card to stay informed upon landing in China. Chinese health authority needs to be able to contact you via call/text if the authority believes that you have a risk of infection of COVID-19. Having a reachable local phone number and email address is highly recommended! Traveling in China! Get a local China Unicom SIM card, and stay connected! Users can also top-up the SIM cards via Lvycomdotcom or mychinaunicomdotcom. And be aware that data added via other channels except Lvycomdotcom and mychinaunicomdotcom may not be workable and may even suspend the card. Please make sure your smartphone is unlocked, otherwise it won't work. Ask your mobile operator for "unlock" information if you are not sure. Local tariff when using top-up credit: 0.2CNY/Minutes, 0.1CNY/Message, 0.2CNY/MB US or Canada calling rate:0.39CNY/Minute (about 0.06USD/Minute). Validation period can be extended by purchasing KEEP-YOUR-NUMBER service on Lvycomdotcom or mychinaunicomdotcom. Per government regulation, China Unicom requires all SIM card buyers to provide their passport information to complete SIM card registration and activation process. Once your order shipped, you will receive a self-registration instruction email within 2hours through Amazon messaging center, pls DO follow that instruction to complete registration first before using! The activation process won't shorten SIM card validation period, which only starts when you actually use the SIM card! Thank you for your collaboration.

If you are Chinese, don't ever buy it. Because you will not be able to register it at all. Even though after reading all manuals from Lvycom website, nowhere says only non-Chinese residents can register it, but the customer service will tell you that's true and say sorry. They have changed the policy without informing anybody at anywhere. A good thing is you can contact the seller by email and got a refund quite easily.
When I put it into the device, the device connects fine to the local network. However, a message pops up saying "Service provider update - Your device will restart to configure features supported by the new SIM card". When I click OK, the message turns into "Please wait" but is stuck there. During this time, the device is unusable. I tried restarting the phone but the same message pops up and gets stuck at please wait.
After being without data for 5 days, I believe I have stumbled upon a solution. Instead of turning off the device, switching SIMs, and turning it back on, I simply switched SIMs while the device was on. Upon switching Sims, my phone restarted on its on and booted on recovery mode. After that, the phone powered on normally and the Service provider update message no longer popped up.
In US, I'm with T-mobile. My phone is an unlocked S7 Edge from Best Buy - not sure if it makes a difference.
We used a Moto G3 and a Moto G4 Plus with a VPN and were able to use Google and Facebook (not as well as in the US, but very usable). A word of advice - Get a WeChat account if you don't already have one since this is how most people communicate.
Luckily I had brought an extra iPhone 6 (also a Verizon phone) that I had with me (just incase I had problems, which I did), and I popped the thing into that phone and it worked perfectly. I ended up having to use my iPhone and connect to it with my Galaxy S7 in order for the phone to function (all my relevant apps, e-mails, etc were on my S7). I know that this is not the fault of the card itself, but the fault of the phone and the carrier. However, it would have been nice if there were some instructions provided for Verizon android phones in general, as there are a lot of us out there. Giving it 3 stars because it worked with my iPhone, but couldn't get the thing to work with my S7. Would have been 5 stars if I was an iPhone user.
