Although I was enlisted, not a "zero", my experiences were very similar because I was a "nuc" on an aircraft carrier, aka "bird farm", and therefore earned about the same amount of money as a junior officer, so my buddies and I ran in similar circles as they did. The end of my time blended into Desert Shield/Storm so I also had similar "wartime" experiences although mine was in the Persian Gulf, not the Gulf of Tonkin.
I fully recommend this book.
Addendum: There are a few typos but not enough to be distracting.
