Product Description

New York in the 1960’s. A new wave of Chinese immigrants is moving into Chinatown. The adoption of the new immigration act has launched the district in a demographic boom! It now reaches Canal Street to the north and Bowery Street to the east. The immigrants, hard-working men and women, are arriving by the thousands to buy buildings, establish businesses and fulfill the American Dream! In this game, you are one of them. With all your savings in hand, the Big Apple is up for grabs! Will you know how to use your talents and acquire the most extraordinary fortune in America? The board represents the New York Chinatown of the mid-60’s. It is divided into 6 districts containing buildings numbered from 1 to 85. A game is played over 6 rounds. In each round, the players receive income from the businesses they have managed to establish. To generate the maximum income, shops of the same type need to be built on adjacent buildings. At the beginning of each round, players draw new Building cards and new Shop tiles. They must then use their negotiation skills to acquire adjacent buildings and establish businesses. But it is not always that easy…In this game where everything can be negotiated, only the hard laws of the market prevail.

Chinatown is great. You can teach people to play in just a minute or two. It's a game of constant negotiation. You're basically thrown into a situation where everything is up for grabs and the person who's best able to identify opportunities and find trades that are advantageous to all parties will wind up the winner.

I had heard about it a long time ago but it was out of print for a number of years, but this new version was recently made so I was finally able to get a copy. The game lived up to they hype.

This is a popular game in my gaming group. It's easy to learn, involves a lot of interaction with other players, and can get crazy when it comes to making deals. It is similar to Acquire and Lords of Vegas in that you have real estate plots and want to build your business efficiently using that space or make good deals in selling off that real estate.

As for the game itself, the description is wrong. This is for 3-5 players, not 2-3. It's best with 5 players, though because you can make more deals.

Ridiculously overpriced but otherwise a really fun game for the family. Normally I would rate this game 5 stars but the fact that anyone would try and charge you this much for a boardgame of this type is ludicrous.
