When I opened the parcel and saw the boots the first time, I was just thinking 'wow', what great looking boots. And then holding them in my hands, feeling this soft and well made thick leather. Turning then the boots around, looking at the stitching, the sole ... fine pieces of handmade manufactured quality ... and then the scent of this fine leather ... aaaah! :-)
And of course the most important. Was putting the boots on and they're fitting like gloves and feel unbelievable comfortable. These boots are giving me the good feeling of having invested my money for a real quality product, something you get real value for what you paid.
Awesome boots, I love 'em. Chippewa rocks!

Although I returned these boots due to fact they were steel cap and this was not stated on the page where I ordered I still wanted to rate them. I have since purchased a standard toe in the same Boot. Definitely order half a size down as these boots (steel or standard) are a generous fit, I went by measurements on the Chippewa site and would still go down half. They need an inner sole in them to make them comfortable as there really is no lining in the boot but once it's in they are great. Good quality leather should last for years and they look great.

These Chippewa Engineer boots are very well made, excellent quality with a Vibram sole and still made in the U.S.A. After having owned plenty of different motorcycle boots over the years, these are the best by far! The heavy black oiled leather is waterproof and I find they are perfect for short rides or long road trips on the bike and comfortable enough for walking any reasonable distance. They make them in most sizes so make sure of your fit first and if you want either steel toe or not. A great wearing and classic looking boot that has been around for a long time and once you've owned a pair you'll realise why.

So, I have a pair of the laced engineer boots as well, and thought these would make an excellent additional pair, largely as a motorcycle boot. The exterior quality of the boot is amazing -- I can't take anything away from Chippewa from making a durable, well constructed product.

The issue lies in comfort. The boot is tight in some areas, and loose in others. I found it difficult to believe there would've been such a difference between the laced version versus the pull-on, but, man. . . Night and day.

First off, I'd highly recommend getting some insoles. They'll make wearing these a lot more tolerable. Secondly, plan on wearing thick and long socks. I've found the stiched in label has a tendency to chafe otherwise.

These boots make absolutely wonderful riders, but not so great for walking around in. Once you get to your destination, you may find wanting to switch out to something that's a little more forgiving for walking.

I'm really hoping that over time, these will break in to become more comfortable.

On whole, I've become a Chippewa convert, but that's really based on the lace-up engineer boots I use for outdoor work. And, like I said, you can't take away anything from the quality exterior work on this boot. It's a serious boot and I'm sure they'll last many years.

Great boots! Made in America with American-made components right here in Chippewa, MN. Not cheap, but well worth the price! They're high-quality, sharp looking and durable. I've been buying and wearing these since the '80's as my every-day boot, my steel-toe work shoe and great for riding boots on my Harley's (Chippewa was the OEM for H-D Engineer boots for many years...my first pair was H-D branded from the mid-eighty's and I STILL have them!). They're easy to maintain (wipe them clean with a damp rag and use a little boot oil now and again), and can be buffed/polished if desired. They are NOT comfortable right out-of-the-box. They take weeks and or months to break-in due to the very stiff materials and construction, and the leather foot-bed is hard/stiff and needs cushion insoles (I use Red-Wing Comfort Cushion Insoles...NOT cheap). I prefer these even over the Red-Wing versions (and I was a Red-Wing man for years as well), including the Made-in the USA models. Fit is critical as these are slip-on only and offer only an ankle and a calf strap that offer very limited adjustability...try before you buy! AFAIC, only WESCO offers a superior product, and they are CONSIDERABLY more expensive. Since I get a new pair of Chippewa 27863 every year as my annual safety-shoe allotment paid for by my employer (I get $150 towards my safety-shoe purchase), longevity isn't an issue for me. Having said that, these will last for years with minimal care, and can be re-healed, re-soled and/or completely rebuilt/refurbished by your local shoe repair shop or Chippewa, just like ALL quality American-made footware used to be (and SHOULD be)!

    HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

buy these boots! Stop messing around with Chinese made junk and buy the real deal. I have two pairs for work and a pair for weekends. For work, they have held up for three years and are showing no signs of giving up on me yet. I only bought another pair because my company offers a substantial boot allowance annually. I am in the steel work trades and got sick of buying laces and burning out the logger type that I used to use. This American bridge builder/welder is happy to slip these quality boots on his feet every day and be on them for 10-12 hrs a day.
