One size fits most: I'm not most. Size 8M

I tried these boots on for no more than 5 minutes and I could already tell they weren't gonna work for me.Possible pros and consList of issues--Calf height too tall: At 5'4" with about a size 8 boot the calf rubs the back of my leg when leg is raised and becomes cumbersome for any period of time. The boots do appear to proportion the length of the shaft with size but not by much. (see pictures)-Calf diameter too large even at smallest range (15"-16" approx as I could tell probably about a half more inch of play at either end) I'm not stocky and quite a bit of swimming around my leg. Granted a bit of room is actually good for airflow but you could drop a snake into my boot there's that much room.-Toe box constricting? I didn't have the boots long enough to see if this would be just a break in issue but not much wiggle room in the toe box for size M feet wearing boot socks. It might be that velvet liner taking up the slack but if that would not change during break-in, the boots would not be incredibly comfortable for long periods. Compared to the L23913 model I can wiggle my toes just fine.-Sole lugs not very aggressive for purpose: Despite having decently thick soles, the lugs are about as thick as the top of Abe Lincoln's head on a penny. Would have to resole if you're going out to the woods and want decent tractionPros-Quality Serviceable boots: The boots appear to be well made and could be resoled in the future as far as I can observe with their construction and sewn down soles. The leather is of a decent cut and the heel cup fits quite snug and well for my feet.-Adjustable: The top strap over your foot is quite long and you could punch more holes to cinch it down tighter than factory but you can't say the same for the calf strap really so hope you have stock calves.-Good as a winter boot! With what appears to be some kind of velvet lining inside the boot I wouldn't recommend Summer use as your feet will boil with all the insulation but on the obverse side it would work pretty well during the winter!Overall a good boot that would require some improvements if intended for the Woods but just not for me unfortunately

I haven't had an actual encounter with a venomous snake yet, but I do feel better knowing I am wearing these very comfortable, "snake-tested" boots. I have a "C' width foot, so the regular ("M") width boot in my "normal" 10.5 size fit well, and felt comfortable, even with a small amount of side-to-side foot movement. However, I have always been a huge fan of SuperFeet insoles, and after reading another reviewer who suggested using a SuperFeet insert for a better fit, I too tried both of my normal favorites (the "green" and the "blue"). I placed one "blue" in one boot, and one "green" insert in the other boot. I placed them directly on top of the insole supplied by Chippewa. For me, the "green" (which I feel provides a higher arch support over the "blue", even though I always try both first and then use the one that feels best to me for that specific shoe maker/style/model) provided the best fit for my feet in these high quality boots. The waterproof feature of these boots is another reason I think these are the best possible combination of both snake and water protection available! One word of caution, I've already purchased (and returned) 2 different boot jacks (available here on Amazon) that proclaimed to "fit all sizes" only to find out these snake boots wouldn't even begin to fit inside those boot jacks. I purchased a size 10.5 M, that are 3-1/2 inches wide at the heel, directly above the 1-1/2 inch thick sole, so make sure any boot jack you purchase can securely fit a boot of this width. I'm currently working with a professional woodworker located in Maine to see if he can modify a Maple and Cherry Boot Jack he currently hand makes to accommodate these snake boots, I'll update this review if he is, and if they work. Update: I received the boot jack (no modifications were needed, his "standard" offering worked great) handmade by this merchant at http://www.rusticworkbench.com/prod/bootjack.htm . Not only did the boot jack fit perfectly for these waterproof snake boots, it is a work of art! The corners are all rounded and hand sanded to a very smooth finish, so I don't worry about damaging the finish on the Chippewa's!
