Chiropractic Abuse is a very important and timely contribution to the critical evaluation of chiropractic. It provides a most valuable perspective on the education, training, thinking, misunderstandings, wrongdoings and unethical behaviours of chiropractors. Anyone who consults a chiropractor or is considering doing so should study it thoroughly. Preston Long has been a chiropractor himself, and therefore his authority and expertise cannot be undermined by labeling him an outsider. His thoughtful insights and hands-on experiences reflect the very heart of chiropractic. It is this fact that makes this book unique. It would be nice to think that his outstanding and in many ways constructive criticism might contribute to a much-needed and long overdue reformation of chiropractic; but I would not hold my breath. -- Edzard Ernst, MD, PhD.

It is time the public woke up to the dangers of chiropractic and chiropractors. Under-educated, minimum standards and way too much ego. Medicine has progressed so far from 1895 and Mr. Palmer, it is unbelievable. No one can find sub-luxations and agree upon the same ones. Radiologists cannot find them on MRIs or X-Rays. This is a well developed and proven science. I actually checked out the standards for education at the various colleges. Nurses have more education and cannot call themselves Dr. Yes, they do adjustments where adjustments should not be done. They are specifically excluded in my treatment because of the damage they can do to my back. Yet, they were done. They have no right to touch children. They do not have the education or anything close to it. There is a lot to learn and at least medicine makes the effort to progress. The "White Paper on Chiropractic, 2012", says it all if you do not believe this. Read this book and have your eyes opened. I have believed and practiced chiropractic for over 40 years. Now I wonder why they are allowed to use the term "Doctor" which implies such a standard of honest and ethics and education and a basis of proven discipline. Everyone can make mistakes, especially when you operate in a space of mini-tiny. But they do tell you the possibilities of failure in full. Not Congratulations, you are an ideal candidate. There is no complete picture or diagnosis given (chiropractors do not believe in diagnosis or disclosure). No, not in chiropractic. I have gone to many chiropractors who never fixed me but certainly kept on treating me as long as I shelled out the money (or my insurance company did) but it was not until I met one who broke all the rules that my opinion certainly changed. Please delve into this 'quasi-medical-scam' before you or your loved ones are hurt too. Check out your chiropractor's education and remember, when did he/she go to school. Education has had some minimal upgrades in the last few years (but certainly not enough). Check out the "White Paper" and check, check, check before you make a possibly irreversible decision that changes your life or the life of your loved ones. You can never learn enough but with the capabilities of the internet, you will no longer be kept in the dark ages (where your chiropractor lives). My eyes are opened to the Wiles of Chiropractic! (but the hard way, through damage to my spine.)

Most of us don't delve too deeply into the "science" behind alternative practices, thinking they probably don't do too much harm. Mr. Long shows that wrongfully applied therapies, based on non-scientific theories, can and do pose a real danger to the public. Those who believe chiropractic works will disagree with the author's claims, and this book may be a difficult read for anyone who is not yet ready to "look under the hood" of a profession that has gained widespread popularity over the past century. However, if you are one of the many people who suspect there may be something fishy about subluxation theory and something potentially dangerous in the way chiropractors approach problems, this book may be a revelation. It is written by someone with unique credentials, ie both classical training in the chiropractic system and further training that critiques that system. It's a rare combination of qualifications, and Mr. Long is saying something that is definitely worth hearing.

This is essential reading for anyone interested in chiropractic: current and prospective patients and students, legislators, journalists, insurance adjusters and anyone practicing evidence-based medicine. I wish I had read this book before I was seriously and perhaps permanently injured by a chiropractor. Like many people I assumed that since they are licensed they're a safe, effective and legitimate form of treatment. I was misinformed on all counts and it's cost me dearly. There needs to be a massive public education campaign to expose chiropractic for the dangerous, wasteful and unscientific cult that it is. This book is a worthy addition to that effort. It's well researched, and as it's written by a chiropractor, it provides a welcome insider perspective. As more people become aware of the quackery that is chiropractic perhaps we can soon rid our society of this scourge once and for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting...

I suspected I was being deceived after my chiropractor kept asking me to come back after my initial treatment "for maintenance". At 35 quid a pop, it was getting to be a real pain in the purse strings. Sure, I'm not against chiropractic care. It helped to ease symptoms where no other affordable treatment option was available for me. However the way he kept manipulating my neck made me uncomfortable and I felt it was unnecessary. I had no idea it could be potentially dangerous! I'm so glad I picked up this book. If I hadn't, I'd probably be still going back to the chiropractor, with nothing to show for it other than being incredibly sore and out of pocket!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting and eye opening book that needs you to read it yourselves and then - judge yourselves

I can see that most of the people commenting on this book might not have actually bought it and are perhaps obviously Chiropractors themselves and very sadly show their true colours by those few of their really rabid and unprofessional comments. The perfect book for them is "The Atlas Adjusted: by Steve Judson. That particular book is so wonderfully positive it gives anyone in the health sector, even myself as a Doctor, specialist and PhD, the inspiration to go out and move mountains and do the best that you can to heal people, not just Chiropractors. I liked this particular book however, because it shows the other side of the coin. The dark side per se. I was truly impartial but the book is very insightful and portrays some truly eye opening comments and personal observations that everyone should all know about. It doesn't need this particular book to be so very damning to Chiropractors alone, as the internet is full of more damning information than this book does. After all, the author is still a Chiropractor but as a Chiropractor saw a different side to the business and has "adjusted" (pardon the pun) his business accordingly. I think the book is interesting and I think I certainly recommend that people buy it and read it for themselves, then further research perhaps, and make up their own adult minds without being browbeaten by anyone.

Nothing more than fine, strangely the quality of the book itself is lacking. Very thin and flimsy
