I was hoping for better based on the reviews. At least the price wasn't bad. Usually the ratio of scoops of grounds coffee is 3 tablespoons to the 4 marking on the carafe which is around 2.8 cups or so of brewed coffee. This takes 4 tablespoons of ground for acceptable coffee and does taste fairly smooth at that point. Also my canister's expiration date came as per my photo where the 10s digit for year was rubbed off so I wonder if it said 07 or 17. The vacuum seal was good at least.
perfect coffee for me. like the strong robust taste. way better than maxwell house. started buying chock full of nuts about 12 yrs. back and have used it since. currently order it from amazon as where i live now ( moved to mississippi 3 yrs. ago from nc ) as none of the stores sell it here except kroger and all they carry is the small can only,i believe the 12 oz. can. not enough and more expensive than amazon. i live on a fixed income soc. sec disabilty and nc state pension check. like to buy the months worth of staple groceries at one time. i order 3 cans of chock full of nuts original( the 4 lb. cans ) and one can per month makes all the coffee i want. live with the cup in one hand and a nonfilter camel cigarette in the other. i order from amazon like that and usually get free shipping with same.order .cheaper to buy in bulk. if you work nights a lot or graveyard shift as we call it here in the south, this coffee will get you going thru the nite. worked graveyard shift for 35 of my 40 work years. thats when you check out many coffee brands. but for me chock full of nuts was tops. their columbian blend is good too.
For decades, I swore by Folgers. I stuck with it even as its quality deteriorated to the point I couldn't ignore the decline anymore, and at that was still slow to give it up. When I finally admitted to myself that Folgers had become undrinkable, I went looking for a new brand. A little experimentation taught me that the popular brands in the stores weren't any better, that expensive boutique brands also had the same quality problems AND were priced through the roof, and that by and large the store-named "generic" products had worse quality still. When I finally cycled around into the old standbys like Yuban, Hills Brothers and Chock full o' Nuts--brands I'd been avoiding, after having tried them years before and finding them harsh and unappealing to my youthful (read "coffee newbie") sensibilities--and found the grail in CFoN. It's full and smooth, not weak and off-tasting like the other stuff on the shelves. The only thing that might beat it are the whole bean coffees, which are preposterously expensive, suffer badly from brand-to-brand quality variations, and have most of the same intrabrand quality problems as their preground counterparts. I won't be buying those. As long as I can get CFoN here, I'll buy that!
A favoured brand for years, I now find myself unable to buy off the shelf. For the options on Amazon (at the time of my purchase, 05'18) this giant tin'o'coffee was cheaper than the smaller packages. It's am American classic, the taste is smooth, and if brewed strong, can be bold. No over-roasted, black and oily beans here (the way some Seattle chains want you to believe strong coffee is made)! No bitterness from too much roasting, just the right balance of punch and pucker!
I really like Chock Full O Nuts coffee. I’m not a “designer” coffee fan. I like a really good smooth coffee and this brand does the job. I also like Eight O Clock coffee and I buy both. I also brew my coffee in a percolator for a rich, cooked coffee flavor without any acidic taste. I like my home brewed coffee better than any coffee house stuff.
This is by far the best manufactured coffee. It's been New York's coffee for decades. It's rich and robust. It's also much cheaper than the premium labels. And no, it DOES NOT contain any nuts! The name comes from the fact that the creator owned a nut shop prior to coming up with the coffee! The only thing I miss is the plastic scoop that used to come in every can. I have a couple that are decades old I'm sure.
This is great. I have been buying the expensive stuff for years and years. Blah blah coffee snob. Yeah, I make my coffee in a Chemex, or sometimes, in a french press. Blah blah. I bought this LITERALLY because I wanted a coffee can. But to my great surprise, this Chock full o' Nuts coffee in a giant can makes a GOOD CUP OF COFFEE. And I will buy it again. The only thing I can say that I don't like is the giant can of coffee in my fridge. (Ha ha ha.)
True story: Years and years ago I talked to a guy who worked for a big national coffee company back in the 1950's and 1960's. I asked him, why didn't they tell people to store their coffee in the fridge? He told me that they talked about it, in the company, but then they decided that "the housewife" would leave it out and there would be condensation issues, so they did not put the recommendation to store coffee in the fridge on the cans. So I try not to leave coffee out once it has been in the fridge.
This is a great everyday coffee and very affordable here on Amazon. I tried it based on the reviews and so glad I did. Even my nephew who's picky about everything asked where I got it because he liked it too.
Chock Full O' Nuts really has the best flavour and aroma. Once you try it, it'll easily become your favorite cup of coffee too. I started drinking it in the 80's, my girlfriend would buy it for me whenever she went to the US. So happy I can get it on Amazon now.. I'd hate to be without it, again. Love, Love, Love IT!!
Remembered this from a kid, my mom would always buy it. You can't find this coffee anymore in Canada. I seen the can on an episode of Seinfeld, and had to search for it, the best coffee I have ever had.....
Perfect mothers gift! She loves loves loves this brand of coffee. Tried it down in Florida and loved it ever since. Much better deal then on official website with shipping. Highly recommend for coffee lovers! This review isn't fake btw. I'm a real person and I do stand by this. Thank you!
