All the diets that I have tried have told me to avoid sweets at all costs. Being a woman of the larger variety avoiding sweets was simply impossible. While reading this book, I discovered some of the reasons I might be "overtreating." I think I can begin to put some of the tips into practice now and start to lose weight, while still enjoying my life. The book is an interesting read and it actually has healthy recipes in it. Imagine losing weight and still being able to eat real food. With this book that is a reality.

If dieting were easy, we’d all be skinny-minis! The challenge is that being overweight and trying to lose weight is all mixed up with our emotions. We eat because we are sad, or because we are happy, to celebrate, to bond with friends. Because of the way our bodies work, the moment we start to diet, we start craving … chocolate, sugar, salt, crunchy potato chips.

Most diets give you lists of things you are forbidden to eat. Most diets don’t work past the 3rd day because we start feeling deprived and intensely crave the things on that list.

Author, Patricia Bacall gives us an alternative. No more diets. No more restricted foods. NOTHING is off limits! She provides sound, practical advice and methods for dealing with the emotions that drive us to over-eat. One of my favorite chapters is, “Tips for Healing Food Cravings,” because that’s what stops me in my tracks with every diet.

Creating my new eating plan is fun! I get to decide what I need and balance it with what I want. I am willing to spend the time because finally here is information and advice that not only resonates with me, but also makes sense.

And the chocolate? The “right” chocolate is actually very healthy for you! There are dozens of chocolate recipes that are sure to keep you happy and free from cravings!

This book helped me out a lot! My husband and I both, actually. We both have been wanting to lose weight for the longest time, but neither of us had results that we wanted and we just couldn't handle the side effects from the diets that we chose to do. This book is both informative and entertaining! While my husband didn't read it, I gave him the tips that were in the book. I don't want to go into too much detail because I want people to read this book themselves and to actually get the experience of reading this wonderful book, but I'll just say that there were many facts about foods that I didn't know before! I especially loved the recipes towards the end of the book. If you're on the line about purchasing this book, I highly recommend that you go ahead and buy it. You won't regret it! It is well-written and overall very helpful. The flow is very smooth and the book isn't filled with junk that will end up boring you. Great read!

The author takes us on an expedition through how we got to love our chocolate so much in the first place, including a bit of history on the delicious brown stuff, and then proceeds to uncover how our love for chocolate sometimes becomes a problem when we use our love of sweets and treats to fill in for what might be lacking in our lives. Well-written and informative, including how a woman’s body size influences how much money she can make. Ms. Bacall then gives us the fun and easy part: how to have your chocolate and lose weight, too. But I don’t want to spoil your fun. Read the book. Great gift for the slightly chubby chocoholics in your life!

This book deals with so much more than just weight-loss.. or chocolate for that matter. Patricia gets to the ROOT of our relationships with our bodies, which is the perfect (and necessary) place to start. She doesn't just focus on food, or make food the enemy. She offers solutions that impact what is truly going on within us at the deepest level. If you're looking for a book on dieting or tricks to temporarily lose a few pounds, this is not it. But if you are ready to truly deal with your body situation at its most fundamental level and bring out real and lasting change, then get this book. It is mandatory.

Though Ms. Bacall's book "Chocolate Lovers Guide To Weight Loss" is uniquely written and done so with a brilliant flair, I can't help but think of the 1970s book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". That book could have used a motorcycle or not, but it didn't need to any more than Ms. Bacall's needed chocolate in it. Both are books about living well, living happy, and being good to oneself. Well-written and recommended.
