What do I like most about Joanna Carl's Chocolate Mysteries?
...it's easy to get into the stories
...the character development and description is always outstanding
...she makes it easy to identify with her protagonist on one level or another
...the chocolate trivia is fun
...she definitely makes use of cliff-hangers :) so...every book is a page-turner and a very easy read
...she keeps the adrenaline rush for the last couple of chapters
...I enjoy relaxing and getting into the story knowing that the big finale comes at the end and then I have a tendency of really dragging out the last chapters 'cause I don't want the story to end :)
When I first found her books, I read a couple of books out of order and then realized that some new characters in each book overlap into the next book and so on, so I ordered all of her books and started from the beginning. I was very glad I did because the overlaps (and flashbacks) are clever and really add to the story.
I love Joanna's credentials and bio... I just think she's an outstanding author and highly recommend all of her books as an easy, fun, relaxing read.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
In Carl's winning eighth chocoholic mystery (after 2007's The Chocolate Jewel Case), Lee McKinney Woodyard, the business manager of TenHuis Chocolade, has agreed to serve as the treasurer for the annual Warner Pier, Mich., WinterFest. After a juror for the festival's art show cancels, Lee goes to the airport to pick up the replacement, Fletcher Mendenhall, who arrives obnoxiously drunk. When Mendenhall turns up the next morning in his motel with his head bashed in, incriminating clues point to both Lee and her husband, Joe, as suspects. While Lee has a tiresome habit of tangling words when she's nervous (I guess we're not hiring a juror to be a dipsomaniac... I mean diplomat), when confronted with a shovel-wielding snowman, the spunky, near six-foot amateur sleuth can throw 20 pounds of chocolates at her attacker with deadly accuracy. Dollops of chocolate lore add to the cozy fun. (Oct.)

With the Winter Arts Festival just days away, Lee Woodyard and her husband Joe are busy helping the rest of the committee put the finishing touches on events. One thing Lee takes on is picking up Fletcher Mendenhall, the juror who is coming in to judge the art show. When she arrives at the airport, she finds him drunk. But the worst part is that he makes repeated passes at Lee and won't take no for an answer. Fed up, Lee drops him off at a hotel.
But that isn't the end of things. The next morning, Mendenhall is found murdered in his room. Since Lee was the last person to see him, she becomes the only suspect. That would be bad enough if key evidence didn't keep showing up in her possession. Can Lee find out who really committed the murder before she is arrested?
I love books where the murder victim truly deserves to die, and that was the case here. That helped pull me in to the book from the beginning. Things get off to a fairly quick start, and they keep moving from there. The ending was a complete surprise. And we got to see many of the series regulars, who were in top form. Lee's "tongue tangles" were kept to a minimum. The new characters were interesting.
I was hesitant about leaping with the series to hardcover, but I'm glad I did. This entry in the series will satisfy its many fans.

Lee once again gets herself into trouble but it is not only her this time, it is Lee and Joe that find themselves fighting to keep themselves out of jail and accused of murders. The Winterfest is here and Lee and Joe just happen to be on the committee for it. During a meeting Joe volunteers to pick up a judge at the airport but when he cant make it Lee steps in to do it. Then it all begins... we have a drunk man, two dead people and a lot of committee members doing different things. Oh wait and a Snowman to boot. Will Lee and Joe be able to prove their innocence or will be be placed in jail for a crime neither committed?

I had a hard time following this story. JoAnna Carl was a little off kilter in writing this one. It was a bit violent for me too. But she writes well and I love her Chocolate mysteries. I really like the facts in the books about Chocolate and the history lessons. I don't like her constant descriptions of the chocolates, not really necessary.

I have all the chocoholic books and I love them all. However, I think it is safe to declare this one the best in the series so far. The last book was a bit of a disappointment but this has renewed my faith in the author, so much so that it was even worth the hardcover price.
The story centers around the small town of Warner Pier, Michigan and its christmas festival, WinterFest, in hopes to attract tourism and drum up business in a wintery time when business would otherwise be slow. Lee Woodyard, the main character and series amateur sleuth, is the treasurer of the WinterFest committee and through a series of events winds up traveling to a town an hour away to pick up the judge of the Warner Pier art show, who is thoroughly sloshed and quite amorous. She successfully fights him off and dumps him at a nearby motel. The next day he mysteriously winds up dead with she and her husband Joe as the prime suspects. All signs point to someone on the WinterFest committee since they were Mr. Drunk's only contacts in the Michigan area.
There is tasty chocolate trivia interspersed throughout the chapters and of course, delicious descriptions of the candy treats sold in Lee's aunt Nettie's business, TenHuis Chocolade. The story moves along at a nice pace and the book is not too long. I enjoy the small town atmosphere of the book and the whodunit plot is well planned out by Ms. Carl. I think this is her best mystery of this series and although I guessed whodunit before all was revealed, it was only because of her clever clues and not because it was so terribly obvious. Overall, I most definitely recommend this book to any mystery fan and especially fans of the previous chocoholic mysteries. I suggest you read this with some chocolate handy.

This book I thought was cute. It's chocolate fact pages throughout the book made it interesting, some of the information I didn't know. I was looking for some light reading to go at night and this book provided it along with a little mystery and suspense. It is definitely a series for those who LOVE chocolate. Try one you like it!!!

I thought I had read all of the books in this series but apparently this one slipped through. I was not disappointed. I found this as enjoyable as the rest of the series and I look forward to any new ones coming up. It is an easy read.

I've enjoyed this mystery series by JoAnna Carl. I've now read most of the novels and will look forward to more in the future. They keep me wondering how the main character is going to solve the mystery and who did it. And all the chocolate descriptions are very tempting.

Love the author's main character and the fact that she works in a chocolate factory only makes it more fun. Who doesn't love to learn info about chocolate and how and where you can buy good chocolate.
Keeps me on my fingers for guessing the motive and person who commits the murder(s).
