This waffle iron cooks fast and clean up is a snap. Just a few swipes of a dry paper towel and you are done. What about sticking and messy oiling/spraying the grids? You only have to oil/spray the plates the first time with the first it is used. My fresh Blueberry Waffles came out beautiful and delicious and none of them stuck to the grids. This baker also has a ready and done beeper. Plus it cooks FAST. Not much is needed in the way of clean up. Just wipe with a dry paper towel and you are done. Washing the grids is neither needed or recommended.
I give this a five star as it out preforms all of my other waffle irons.
What is not to like about this little device? It is compact, light as a feather, heats up fast and the waffles come out perfect every time. Even recipes that are difficult to pull off, like gluten-free vegan waffles, get people to roll their eyes, as in OMG-these-are-so-good. My favorite setting is the crispy outside and soft inside button, which bakes the waffles super fast and yields a wonderful soft and moist result. Just wait for the beep, it opens up without that stuck feeling and the waffles lift off easily, no sticking.
I've made two batches of waffles, the first with the basic batter recipe from Chefs Choice and the second using the recipe from the Cuisinart. The differences in the recipes: CC vs Cuisinart... 1/4c butter vs 6 Tbs veg oil. 1 1/4 to 1 1/2c milk vs 1 3/4c, 3Tbs sugar vs 2Tbs.
Never did get a good waffle from the CC recipe, Made six experimented with both "crisp" and "uniform" bake and several temp settings. All six waffles were undercooked (gummy) inside and none were crisp outside. Very disappointed with results which were inedible. May try it again to see if iron "break-in usage made a difference in performance
Second batch using Cuisinart recipe were better and I think with further experimenting I may get the waffle I'm looking for. I made one waffle using uniform bake at temp 3.5. I did get a uniform waffle - it was uniformly dry inside and out and took almost 4 minutes to bake. It was at least edible with butter and syrup. I made a second waffle using crisp bake and a temp of a bit more than 4. That produce a decent waffle. It could have been a bit crisper on the outside but the inside was done just about right. Out of respect for my blood sugar level I will wait another day to continue my search for the best settings/batter combo.
Non stick works great
No overflow using 1/2 c batter
Fast bake and recovery time on crisp setting
Uneven heating of grill plates - rear right quadrant temp, measured with IR thermometer, runs about 35' F lower than all other quads which heat to 370 +/- 5 degrees F. Results in that part of waffle being noticeably lighter than the rest.
Cord storage...have yet to figure out how to store cord
Long cook time on uniform
I looked at the KitchenAid model that makes 2 at a time, and was really tempted, but $200 is just too much for a waffle maker for our family. And, it is huge to store.
I wanted something that was not too big to store, reasonable (for me that was $50 or less per iron) and worked fast. After reading reviews on the KitchenAid, the Waring Pro, the Hamilton Beach Flip and Fluff and this one (and probably a lot of others, too!), I decided that buying TWO of this one might do the trick, at half the cost of the KitchenAid. So I bought 2!!
They arrived yesterday, and I just pulled one of them out of the box to give it a try. We were able to make a delicious lunch in good time for all 5 children and myself, just using ONE of the waffle irons. I was impressed. We used the "moist interior" setting and it was delicious.
Cleanup is so easy. The manual recommends 1/2 cup batter per waffle, and if you stick with this, it practically never overflows. I brushed the plates (per manual instructions) with oil before beginning the first waffle and they all came off beautifully with my silicone spatula.
Now I'm wondering if I even need the 2nd one, since this one makes good waffles so fast. I think we will keep it, though, and have company on Sunday evenings for Waffle Night! I'll update my review for durability after we have had it for awhile.
UPDATE: I ended up selling the 2nd waffle iron to a friend, because 1 does a fine job of making waffles for our family of 7 people. There's a little waiting, but not much, and we're happy using just one, so my friend gets a good deal, too! She & her family are really enjoying it.
