This book is unusual in that it is written by a father and daughter team. Eli Goldratt is a world renowned expert in Supply Chain optimisation. Efrat Goldratt-Ashlag is an industrial psychologist. The book manages to tease apart Eli Goldratt's power's of thinking, which although are applied in supply chain settings - are totally readable and accessible to the layperson. His daughter never fails to ask the right questions and tease out the information while never just taking it at face value either!
What's amazing is that this book really guides the reader into thinking clearly, moving past assumptions, and finding creative, out-of-the-box solutions to challenges. It also touches on the theme of "Conscious Business" because Eli Goldratt's philosophy is creating win-win outcomes.
It becomes no surprise that replenishment enhances these enterprises and yet the cost accounting practices and distribution legacies lead them to larger batches that become out of season, stale and then heavily discounted. What remains is that no good idea sells itself, and it is the effort the father takes with his smart daughter through the concept to transform part of her life as well that becomes the gem in this reading. You get that she gets"it". What a pleasure on another respect in that how many fathers get their daughters to contribute to their life's work?
Whether you have a retail business or a family, the principles can be applied and while short, this one will enlighten you. It's not the Goal, nor It's Not Luck, but it is a contribution to his body of knowledge and I found it useful nearly 20 years after first reading the Goal and It's Not Luck and more than 12 years after becoming a Jonah.
Worthwhile addition to your JONAH library.
