Six years ago: the H and h were in love and planning their marriage. They had a brief Rachel-Ross break. He wound up knocking up a one night stand and ended up choosing the one night stand over the h. He married the OW and they had twins.
Present: the H moves back to town. He is a divorced single dad. The h is his children’s teacher. His ex wants to take the kids from him. The h fakes marry the H to help him keep custody of the children. The two are still attracted to each other. They fall in love despite his ex causing problems.
No likes: I hate these storylines with the H choosing the pregnant OW over the h and then returning to the h after his marriage breaks up. Blah. And then the h has to help raise the children that he had with OW. I disliked the H very much. He thought he made the right choice in picking the OW over the h because it was for the sake of his children and the OW. I don’t get it because she was a one night stand. What about what was right for the h who was suppose to be the love of his life? He didn’t have to marry the OW. He was divorced for four years and he never made an effort to reach out to the h during that time. And he only moved back to town because he inherited a house from a friend. His thoughts also tell the reader that he left his feelings for the h behind after his marriage. How could he claim to have always loved her? His actions didn’t show it. I also didn’t like that the OW told the h that the H chose her when they were in an argument and the h had nothing to fight back with because that was what he did. His marriage was not one in name only - he tried to make it work...that’s even worse.
The h was also weak because she jumped into bed with him fairy quickly after seeing him again. She also forgave him too quickly for not picking her over OW. If it were me, I doubt I could ever get over being number two.
I hated the story and disliked the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and watching Kate and Finn as they get to know each other again and as their love blooms stronger than ever. You also get a chance to see some of the other characters you may have met in earlier Marietta books. A 5-star recommendation from me.

This is the second book in “The Canadays of Montana” series & is about Kate (stepsister to Olivia from the previous book) & her ex-fiancé, Finn. It’s well written & edited. A sweet second chance romance, with a couple of love scenes.
Kindergarten teacher Kate offers to help Finn out when his ex-wife, Melissa - the woman he’d left Kate for - decides to fight for sole custody of their twins, Cutter & Caylee. They secretly marry, with Kate moving in as their “nanny”. After all, it’s not a real marriage, just something to show the judge that Finn is dependable & settling down. Can serial dater Kate keep her heart under lock & key, & can she really walk away from the twins & their father after the court case? Or can bull rider Finn persuade Kate - the woman he’s never got over - to take a chance on their fake marriage & turn it into something real?
I’m not sure whether I liked Finn all that much for choosing his one night stand instead of the woman he’d been engaged to. Kate I wasn’t sure about: she blew hot & cold with Finn, & this really annoyed me! However her grand gesture & the ending did pull at my heartstrings. The twins - I loved them. They were cute (probably too cute & good), although the author tried to show that they were full of mischief.
The book ends with an excerpt from “Every Time A Bell Rings” which is not part of the series.
The twins’ mother has decided to sue for custody and Finn’s lawyer tells him that getting married will help his case to keep the kids. Kate offers to help him out.
The book is very straight forward and predictable, but it is well written and enjoyable. It’s a good escape for a few hours.
