The main character is an ex of the main character in the first and second book. A bad boy kinda ex, that deep down has a heart of gold (although in second book, the reader was left with a strong dislike of this character). I think the writer did a good job transitioning from book 2 to 3.
As mentioned in my review of books 1 and 2...this is a very diluted gay themed series. It's not as hot and steamy as it could be...the verbiage used, is geared more toward a straight or lesbian themed book. I this book, the writer is dabbling more in to the sub/dom scene and prostitution, however, I didn't think she did the best job with that if her target audience was gay men. It was very vanilla with all the terms she used for sex...and there was a over use of the word "make love" considering you're dealing with dom/sub and prostitution. I also thought there was too much emphasis put on the Steve's PA and sling in his bedroom...or the tongue ring. I felt ti was thrown in there for more of shock value...and in fairness, to some that may be...but it's not really that uncommon for anyone to have piercings or even sex toys.
I have to say, the writer did a great job of making you fall in love with Steve and "Ducky". I think the writer was trying to play up a younger older match...more of daddy son type relationship. In some ways she did...but in other ways she failed. Steve was portrayed in many ways as someone older...more experienced in life, settled and more on the wealthy side. However, doing the math, he's probably a few years under 30 (based on him being in a biker gang at 16 and then revisiting that crew a decade later). I also think the whole plot was a little far fetched...but it is a romance novel...so some things are forgiven and you just roll with it.
Like the end of book 2, this book ends with budding romance of 2 characters who were in this book. Unfortunately, the price of future books in this series went up (not that 2.99 is a deal breaker)...but they aren't that interesting for that price (that says a lot right there). So...if you are looking for a nice light read...I'd suggest the first three books. If the price drops...I'll probably read the next in the series.
As I mentioned in my previous review...these are more like Hallmark Channel Romances with a gay characters...very vanilla, but still kinda nice. If you're expecting something more like Queer as Folk...you'll probably be disappointed.
I thought the author did a great job drawing the reader into the characters. I was immediately invested and couldn't wait to see how this ended. I loved the suspense created.
Even though it's part of a series you don't have to read the others to follow along. it's a good book as a standalone.
This book kept me on my toes and I found I was unable to put it down.
Steve is a big burly former biker with a shaved head and tatoos. He has not had a lot of luck in love and had a rough time in his teenage years. Can Steve figure out a way to force Topher to let Joey go? Can he be the kind of guy a damaged submissive needs?
