Are you sabotaging the love that is possible in your relationships? Have you ever wished you could experience unconditional love? Choosing Love offers a spiritual approach to transforming relationships by showing you how to let go of any fears, limiting beliefs, and judgments. By moving beyond your ego and conditioning, you can create a richer, more loving life for yourself and those you care about. You have the power to determine how much love you experience in any given moment.
There is nothing that opens someone’s heart more than someone with an open heart. Conversely, there is nothing that closes someone’s heart more than someone with a closed heart. Choosing Love will help you open your heart by helping you overcome the fear, judgments, and egoistic expectations and demands that block love and make relationships difficult.
A loving relationship is possible, and it starts with your own relationship - to love with your capacity to love. Choosing Love will help you love and, thereby, draw more love to you in your life. Choosing Love provides profound insights and practical advice about how the ego interferes with love and happiness; moving beyond romantic illusions; recognizing, finding, and sustaining a meaningful relationship; overcoming anger, judgments, criticism, and resentment; resolving issues like infidelity, money, commitment, sexual differences; and seeing the divine in one another.

"Life unfolds as it will regardless of whether we like it or not. By opposing life, we eventually learn this truth. We learn how impotent our opposition to life is and that this opposition only causes suffering. What's left is choosing to agree with life - to love whatever is, no matter what that looks like. That is the secret to life. It's both simple and difficult. Oneness likes a challenge, so something being difficult isn't a problem for it. It welcomes the difficult challenge of waking up out of the egoic state of consciousness. That has been Oneness's intention all along, and the suffering caused by our inability to make life turn out as we would like is how Oneness accomplishes its goal. Our desire to stop suffering eventually leads to our saying no to ego and choosing love instead." (page 12 - location 391 Kindle)
The vastness of that statement is staggering, and yet so comforting. As I ponder it again while writing this review, I am awestruck by the beautiful elegance and grandeur of it.
"You can't keep judgements from arising because they aren't under your control or anyone else's, but you can decide to do nothing about a judgement." (page 36 - location 910 Kindle)
How liberating is this? We can learn to relax when judgements come up and not get so upset that we get them. That's what I'm learning from this teaching. I was getting upset because they were coming up and trying hard to stop them. Now I'm much calmer when they come up. And it's easier to let them go.
"Although you are responsible for what you do with your conditioning, you aren't responsible for the fact that it's there. It's just the programming you were given. Seeing this will help you detach from the conditioning and not act on it. What if you send love to this conditioning and to the ego which so desperately wants to act on it? Who is this you that is able to lovingly be with this conditioning? It's Essence, the you that is capable of love and a loving relationship." (page 41 - location 1013 Kindle)
How simple! It does take practice to achieve this and I am still practicing. However, having this concept removes the guilt associated with having the conditioning itself.
And there's plenty of practical advise in this book and how to maintain loving relationships.
A most surprising concept that Gina espouses is "Honesty is not always the best policy". I did a double take on this one and had to agree after I read her explanation. What she is saying is that it's better to hold your opinion to yourself if it could cause hurt.
"Judgements aren't the only thing we shouldn't share with our partner. The ego's thoughts, in general, aren't necessarily useful to share. Honesty is not the best policy if that honesty comes from the ego. In addition to judgements, the ego is full of opinions, complaints, and half truths, and sharing these with your partner can only bring him or her into their egoic state of consciousness." (page 41 - location 1023 Kindle)
This is a book that you can read through and then go back and read it again and again.
My mantra for many years has been "I'd rather Be Here Now". This book and Gina Lake's other works are all about this and making the concept of living in the moment so approachable and practical.
Mankind is evolving spiritually and the rate we evolve will increase as more of us are called by our true Essence to embody these principles.
Heartfelt thanks and love to Gina Lake for her part in this process.
The advice she gives is practical and easy to implement. Gina'a compassion is evident from her beautiful words. An exceptionally talented author.
I honestly give this book the highest recommendation I could possibly give to a book. Regardless of whether you think your romantic relationship is going wonderfully well or filled with suffering, regardless of whether you are in a romantic relationship or not, this book can help you to experience more peace and love in all of your different types of relationship in life.
