Deep, funny, full of wisdom- it's got something for everyone

Bekah Pogue has approached writing her first book, Choosing Real, in the most
authentic and vulnerable way possible. She has obviously put her heart and soul into this project, and as the reader, I couldn't help but be drawn in over and over again. She shares some of her most personal experiences and life lessons, with the hope that she will be a blessing to someone else in some beautiful way.

I must be honest- I like stories. My favorite genre is historical fiction and I love getting swept away by someone else's story or adventure. I don't tend to reach for books that make me self reflect or reach deep down inside myself very often...but sometimes I find a book like that that I really connect with and don't want to put down, and Choosing Real was that book for me! What I loved was that Bekah's writing was so relatable and easy to follow. There were moments for tears of sadness, tears of understanding and tears of laughter, all wrapped up in a beautiful but unpretentious package full of life lessons and self reflection.

Bekah is real, her writing is so easy to connect with, and God has obviously inspired her words and given her a gift to share with us- I HIGHLY recommend this book! (Even for my fellow light-hearted fiction readers 😉)

As a long time follower and reader of Bekah's blog, it's been such a joy to see her journey come to life through her words in this beautifully written book. Bekah's conversational writing style makes you feel like you are snuggled up on her couch in her Pogue Cottage, sipping tea and enjoying something sweet (chocolaty, of course). I've had the pleasure of being apart of the same church community as Bekah, and every time we interact I know without a doubt she understand my struggles. As I read through her book, I felt like she was speaking her words of hope, encouragement, and understanding directly to me! Bekah gets real about grief, pain, loneliness and a whole slew of real, raw emotions we all experience. It's so comforting to know I'm not the only one that struggles daily with weariness, loneliness and feeling less than. Her words rejuvenate my soul and fill the dark places within me with hope and knowing who I am before my Father. I've cried and laughed out loud and at times have jumped out of my seat yelling, "YES, AMEN SISTA"! How many books can honestly bring you to that reaction? I am excited to share and discuss this book with my girlfriends... and I'm thankful for the reminder to Choose Real in the midst of the chaos!

This book is written with an authentic and caring voice. I love how Bekah interweaves real life experiences along with wisdom that she has learned through her experiences to show that life doesn't go as planned but we can still make the most of it. Their family has beautiful traditions that I'm definitely going to try to start with my own family and I love how she shares recipes too. Overall, I would highly recommend this book wherever you are in life but as a mom to four kids I really appreciated the way she spoke to her life as a fellow mom.

Choosing Real comes straight from the heart. Its the type of book that can touch its readers and leave a lasting impact. It got me thinking, made me giggle, and brought tears to my eyes. This book is very relatable, because who can't relate to life going differently than we have all planned or hoped that life would go. I have always somehow made it through life's unexpected turns, but it wasn't until Bekah's book and her bravery to Choose Real and speak truth, that I really was able to realize just how relateable each of us and our own personal stories are. It's more than a bit refreshing to be able to connect to an author in that way. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a read that will fill up your soul and refresh your perspective on life. It's definitely a book a I will keep and read again.
