"In an era where it seems like women are being collectively sold a lie that says we aren't enough, Choosing Real invites us to experience the deep and holy satisfaction that comes when we relish in God filled daily moments. Bekah's encouragement to lean and listen close to Jesus's whispering adoration reframes life's many seasons. Whether in mundane everyday moments, seasons of grief and sorrow, times transitions, or times when friendships experience strain, Choosing Real gently calls us to slow down and identify with a Jesus who values us beyond all, and reveals Himself to us as He celebrates us as His treasured creation."

Book Description
From the Back Cover
“As I sat outside, my legs folded under our weathered bench, for the first time, I was. I didn’t do. I simply existed.
“I’m done, God. I’m tired. I have nothing to give to anyone. Especially You. These feeble confessions changed my perspective on faith. For the first time, I let go of all the people-pleaser, perfectionist goals, the to-do lists and play dates, and the faces I hoped to make happy, and I got real down and dirty with my Lord. Getting real with Him saved my life.”
--from the Introduction
In Choosing REAL, author Bekah Pogue walks with us into life’s unplanned circumstances--specifically frantic schedules, pain, transition, feelings of unworthiness, loneliness, and tension--and reminds us it is in these.very.moments where God invites us to notice, respond, and even celebrate an authentic relationship with Him through every.little.detail despite our own efforts or work. The result? A connection between real life and faith so that they are one and the same.
When we enjoy God's company first--even in uncertain seasons--the heavenly Creator will transform our minds to view our schedules, work, relationships, parenting, and responsibilities as opportunities to dance in life's storms and honor how beautiful simple can be. Better than our ideal party, it is He who is inviting us, setting the table, breathing peace and freedom into details we aren’t in control of. If we still our minds to embrace how REAL God is in everyday circumstances--and when we recognize how He surprises us by using our greatest pains and detours to draw us to a beautiful dependence on Him--freedom and peace replace control and worry.
Are you ready to release your control of needing to be everything for everyone? To put aside what-could-be and instead embrace what is? The invitation is yours. . .
Read on, and choose Real today.

Her words encourage us to believe we each have unique gifts and experiences to share with the world. Dancing through life with this confidence is both liberating and draws us closer to God. I love theses lines from the Chapter "Undie Therapy": "Beauty is trusting that your worth is solidified in a God of grace who knows your thoughts & fears & sees you giving your best today & wraps you in His embrace & shines a light on your face & declares, "You. Are. Beautiful." .
Choosing Real speaks to every woman's heart--women who desire to have true connection, true community, and to feel truly beautiful in the midst of everyday life, grief, anxiety, depression, loneliness, transition, and joy. Bekah's writing is a breath of poetical and relatable fresh air. Her conversational style is sprinkled with humor and seasoned with poignant anecdotes and real-life situations. She inspires us to celebrate the simple, the extraordinary, the painful, and the wish-we-could-do-over moments because God is profoundly present in each of them.

I highly suggest that you go grab your favorite latte (and a highlighter), get out some sparkly balloons and garland, and drink in the goodness of this book.

authentic and vulnerable way possible. She has obviously put her heart and soul into this project, and as the reader, I couldn't help but be drawn in over and over again. She shares some of her most personal experiences and life lessons, with the hope that she will be a blessing to someone else in some beautiful way.
I must be honest- I like stories. My favorite genre is historical fiction and I love getting swept away by someone else's story or adventure. I don't tend to reach for books that make me self reflect or reach deep down inside myself very often...but sometimes I find a book like that that I really connect with and don't want to put down, and Choosing Real was that book for me! What I loved was that Bekah's writing was so relatable and easy to follow. There were moments for tears of sadness, tears of understanding and tears of laughter, all wrapped up in a beautiful but unpretentious package full of life lessons and self reflection.
Bekah is real, her writing is so easy to connect with, and God has obviously inspired her words and given her a gift to share with us- I HIGHLY recommend this book! (Even for my fellow light-hearted fiction readers 😉)
