Captivating from the book title onward, Hank may consider himself a composer (not to mention organist, choir/concertmaster, playwriter, etc.) but he really must add storyteller extraordinaire to his many talents! Clearly any composer's life must be unique and unexpected as the ideas burst forth amidst the concerns of financial uncertainty but Hank's recounting of his life's musical journey with passion, pathos and humor had me smiling all the way through. Prepare to be enriched by reading his book (while awaiting his soon to be released songbook). Well worth the read!!! Karen Campbell
Beebe is an extremely talented composer who proves that he can also tell a story with panache. His anecdotes about the ups and downs of a creative career will be of interest to anyone who faces the challenge of establishing their own brand and selling it to the world.
I loved the insight into the lives of composers who are such an important part of movies, musical theater, and dance. What a pleasure to learn about this professional composer and how his music was chosen by producers. The author is a real person and not just a line on the credits of a film. I finished reading it on two long-distant flights
The life and work of Hank Beebe, " I Chose to Compose”, has been a very interesting read. The music making of this piano man brightened lives, uplifted spirits and brought much humor to all who have heard the tunes and now we get to share in the life he forged for himself. Musicals, anthems and educational materials along with personal insights in this memoir give us a glimpse into the ins and outs of a very creative and persevering individual.
I highly recommend this book because of the sheer pleasure I had reading it. This memoir is an honest account of a life's experience and it is heartening too because it demonstrates that amazing results can be achieved when conviction, passion and perseverance prevail. Curious about his results, I wanted to hear some of the author's musical accomplishments so I visited his website: hankbeebe.com...and listened. I suggest that you also plan a visit there for after you do, like me, YOU will be very glad that Hank chose to compose!
