The setting is in Boston, a place I've never been but after reading The Chosen Few I feel as if I've just gotten back from. Through this book you'll find humor with the characters Cyrus the cat and the gar that refuses to eat normal fish food. So what does it eat and what happens when you put a cat and a fish in the same house?
Simon's main character Max Lovely is a PI who is hired to find his client's x-husband David. In doing so he finds himself coming face to face with a mob hit man who was hired to kill David. As I read I kept asking myself "Who would put out a hit on David and why?" "Who are The Chosen Few and what do they have to do with David?" And the big question - "Will Max get to David before it's too late?"
You will have to read The Chosen Few yourself to find the answers to these questions. But I will tell you that Simon's way of writing makes for easy reading but still keeps you spellbound all the way to the end.
The first chapter of The Chosen Few ends with a murder and the book keeps up its fast pace until the end. This is a well written mystery that keeps you turning pages. The dialogue is so well done that it drew me into the story and made me feel like I was there, listening to them talk and wanting to see what would happen next. There's plenty of humor, intelligent writing, surprises and suspense.
This one is not just a "must read", it's a "must read as soon as possible"!
This novel has everything, mob hit men - more suspects than I can count on my hands - chase scenes in autos, across roof tops, etc. and a touch of humor and romance.
Jump in and let Mr. Simon pull you into the mayhem where everyone is a suspect as you follow all the twists and turns. Don't be fooled, as many red herrings will lead you nowhere; except an abrupt dead-end. Finally, they drank his ashes and wept.
Kudos to this author and his editor for such well written prose. One of them or maybe both must have a masters in English and composition. Being an author myself, I know how difficult it is to get everything right. Great writing.
Author al-Qaeda Strikes Again
it is a gem! i usually don't read mystery books except for robert parker
and nancy drew. i enjoyed it sooooo much. i loved the characters, the remarkable details in the descriptions of the neighborhoods of boston with all of the subtleties that had me remembering smells, sounds and the way the air felt there.
he did a masterful job weaving the thread of interconnections and leaving me guessing until the very end. it truly was hard to put down.
bravo for matt!!!
