The Chosen Knights by Mary Ting is an urban fantasy lover’s dream! There are demons, vampires, angels, and fallen angels all set to the back drop of high school in Hawaii. What more could you ask for?! If you are new to Mary Ting, I highly recommend reading either The Angel Knights, the prequel which will give you a little background to the world created by the author, or go back to the beginning Crossroads, the series that this one is based off. Personally I haven’t read Crossroads and am not lost so this series can be read as a standalone. However I have every intention of reading them!
Lucia and Zachary are the nephilim children of Michael and Claudia, raised to be demon-hunters, Venators. They deny the human-side of themselves, pushing their emotions to the side. Zac does this better than Lucia. Lucia struggles and it’s this struggle that drew me to her story. Lucia and Zac are 17, have never been around humans, and are now being thrust into the world of high school. It’s interesting to read how they adjust and even humorous when Lucia tries to reason out the use of unfamiliar slang which results in miscommunication.
Lucia is easily likable. She’s loyal, a fierce fighter, and follows her heart, which gets her into a lot of trouble. Zac is what every brother should be. He’s her best friend, her confidante, and always has her back. “Uncle” Davin, Michael’s best friend and their guardian while in Hawaii, cracks me up. He’s like a big kid, but fiercely protective of Zac and Lucia. I love him!
Then there’s the humans they meet, or at least Lucia believes them human. Eli is half-demon and also the love interest. I’ll be honest, I really had a hard time liking him. He’s rude, pushes Lucia away at one instance and in the next is keeping a close eye on her. I’m not sure how I stand on my feelings for him.
The plot revolves around the mysterious Cyrus, who he is and what he wants. I found myself completely absorbed in the paranormal world created by Mary Ting. Between the mythology created by the author and the action, I was hooked! I loved the scenes between Eli and Lucia. You never really know where either stands. Are they enemies, are they friends, or are they more? And that ending….ugh!!! I hate cliffhangers. I need The Blessed KnightsThe Blessed Knights like yesterday.
Overall I really enjoyed this book! It’s a great start to the series. If you enjoy urban fantasy, paranormal romance, or enjoyed the Crossroads series, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of this book asap.

The action and adventure continues with a touch of teenage angst continues in The Chosen Knights. Yes! I would recommend reading the prequel, The Angel Knights, to get more background on these characters. But then again, that's just me. I like having more background into the characters' personalities and such. It gives me more of an understanding of these characters and the decisions they make, be it impulsive and/or cautious.
Anyways, I am absolutely a fan of urban fantasy, paranormal, supernatural genres. And... Mary does not disappoint with this spin-off series. The prequel itself gave me a brief idea of where these characters are coming from as The Chosen Knights opens. I somewhat got an idea of why they are in Hawaii. So, as the story progresses and develops, these characters grow as well. There's also history revealed throughout giving readers a bit more of an understanding of the various characters. I even got the sense that that "line" between good and evil are somewhat blurred with the various supernaturals that these angels encounter during their time on Earth, specifically Hawaii.
I don't know... This review would probably get spoiler-y if I continues, so I will leave this as is. This is a fun read for young adults, especially for fans of urban fantasy, paranormal, supernatural genres. I found this story of angels, demons, and other supernaturals fascinating as their paths crossed and their individual personalities develop. Mary's descriptive and expressive writing took me away to Hawaii and the action/adventure(s) her characters encountered. And, her character development was not lacking. I found her characters to have unique and relatable personalities.
All in all, The Chosen Knights is an entertaining and delightful read for fans of Cassandra Clare. Action/adventure and a touch of emotion-filled drama with angels, demons, fallen, and supernaturals galore! Can;t forget all the teenage angst that goes along with high school...haha!

Lucia and Zachary have been sent Hawaii with their Uncle Davin, to find out why teens are going missing, so they go undercover in the high school, but all the clues seem to lead back to the era of the Knights Templar. However it seems that one of the Templars left a book which was handed down through the generations and contains all the secrets and codes to find a treasure. Being demon-hunting angels there is bound to be all sorts of supernatural beings around so they must all work together and when they go back into the past they have more than they bargained for.
This was a great story by Mary Ting, it can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend the prequel “Angels Knights” where it will give you a kind of back story into these characters.
Can’t wait to read the next instalment in the “Angel Knights” series by Mary Ting.
It reminded me of the Crossroads with Micheal and Claudia and their struggle with their forbidden love.
Lucia didn't want to admit to her feelings for Eli she didn't want to believe it was love she felt she knew she shouldn't, while her head said no and her heart was screaming yes.
Beautiful story can't wait for the follow up
