The vampire's friends were upset, jealous, and angry. They wanted him back the way he had been before he met his "Chosen". They even resorted to trying to get his Chosen to turn against him. (Good luck with that!) The scenes ranged from humorous moments to a couple of scary ones. Violence and trust issues. Read at Ted's Hot Dogs while my dogs were getting groomed. Then l went to Barnes and Noble and bought the 2009 Champions baseball magazine...the last year the Yankees won the World Series:0)
But there are clouds looming on the horizon. Now that Bast only feeds from Trick their friends are apprehensive. They don't understand the attachment between Bast and his chosen who they feel is in danger, and this leads to a scene in Bast's apartment where he shows his true possessive vampire nature.
Chosen covers the next decades of these two characters' lives and the evolution of their love. They have a special relationship and an unusual bond and the love is so strong and profound that I could not help but be affected by their deep emotions. This is an extremely sensuous book and the heat level is off the scale with frequent passionate and sizzling sex, but I felt that there could have been more communication between Bast and Trick now that they have been together for years. They are almost always in bed, in the shower or in a dozen other places making love and trying to make each other crazy with lust. There is considerable emphasis in Chosen on the sex between Trick and Bast, but Sean Michael deftly interlaces the passion with insights into their lives and the changes that occur as Trick ages. He skillfully touches on Trick's worry that his lover will no longer want him because he is looking and getting older and may no longer be able to keep him happy or fed.
Chosen is intense and the emotions in the book seem very real and parallel the changes in Trick and Bast. Sean Michael has done his usual excellent job of portraying the deep love and affection between his characters and wraps up the story with a satisfying and credible ending.
Chosen continues Trick and Bast's story in much the same vein as Need. I enjoyed the deeper emotion between Trick and Bast, and the sex scenes are incredibly hot. The concept of a vampire's "Chosen" is very interesting, and I liked the conflict with Bast's friends over his relationship with Trick. I was curious about what happened to these two after the first one, especially as Trick ages but Bast does not, and Sean Michael ties their story up with a satisfying ending. My only complaint was that the emphasis in this tale often seemed to be on the sex, which while it was well done and often emotional, did get to be a bit much. I would have liked to see more conversation and other interaction between Trick and Bast. Still, this story is well-written, and if you wondered what happened to Trick and Bast after Need, you'll definitely want to pick up Chosen.
