"Fool's Gold" "Violet Tendencies" and "Rusted Veins" are all shorter length works which involve Sabina Kane. As a fan of the series, I appreciated the background information provided in the works. Of particular note is the high degree of realism for each tale, set in a different time period. Really well done. As with her other work, Wells creates very compelling characters in interesting situations facing unusual complications - a task much easier said than done. The works are just long enough to give the reader an honest impression of what the books are like. Simple fact is, if you like the collected novellas you are going to enjoy reading the novels.
"Fire Water" is a prequel novella which introduces Kate Prospero, the protagonist of Wells' Prospero's War series. I've read a couple of the books in the series thus far and was very appreciative of the novella. Many habits, background information and modest secrets (think "origin story" from comics) are revealed in "Fire Water"
Very much recommended to any fan of speculative fiction or urban fantasy in particular. Entertaining, amusing and engrossing!
