First the guy is a well known technician who created the security system on her phone but it takes him days to hack it? Then after talking for a few hours at a ball both of these thirty something super intelligent people are proclaiming their undying love for each other. This was all by 27% into the book. Now it is okay in Disney, but not for two people that are described as two of the biggest powerhouses in business.
After their sappy declaration of love I thought ok what now when the author enters an element of mystery. Elle is being threatened by her ex with a hostile company takeover. Sounded good but once agin, it was not well executed. I don't know how you can mess up such a commonly used plot as a hostile takeover, but this author had it going in so many ways it was ridiculous. Add to that the one sex scene basically saying slide slot B into slot A and there was nothing redeeming in this book.
Elle Simpson is one of the most powerful businesswoman in the US, head of Simpson Global, with variety of ventures run by her various siblings, but only after they prove their worth. She met her dream man at the Masquerade Ball held by Drake Charles, the reclusive software billionaire, then after one night of passion she had to run off to complete a business deal, having never learned her beau's name. She was surprised to find later that her beau was none other than Drake Charles himself, who was kind, charming, and loving, and has wealth that matched hers. But even as she bask in the glory of love, enemies are closing in. An ex-lover who turned out to be a corporate spy that tried to take over her company 6 years ago (just as she was graduating college and assumed the reins after her parents died) is now back, threatening to ruin her and all around her. A saleswoman who used sexual favors to boost her sales figures and terminated is making hay in media. And worse, someone hacked into her corporate email and had been impersonating her, both online and off, including fake press release (from her own email account!) that she's pregnant and merging with a competitor, then impersonating her to cash out the company emergency credit line of two million. Then the secret service showed up and hauled everybody downtown... claiming she bought a gun and threaten to kill the president... Who would be impersonating Elle and what is their endgame?
Here are a couple problems that it nearly falls into the "too stupid to live" category... SPOILERS AHEAD
1) So IT folks managed to track down that the emailed "fake" press release came from her own computer.
Uh, no. That would mean someone was able to gain access TO HER OFFICE to send it, not merely knowing her password. And WHY wasn't all passwords changed after the breach just for the fun of it? And what about a camera on her office door proving she wasn't IN the office when those emails are sent? And here's a big spoiler: how can someone she knew from SIX TO SEVEN years ago still guess her password?
2) Secret service hauled her and all related downtown for interrogation on merely a video tape.
Didn't they take finger prints? It takes more than a wad of cash to buy a gun. There are the mandatory "ID check and waiting period". Where did the imposter get the fake ID to get the dealer to start the background check and ping the secret service radar? AND since when does a CEO went off to buy her own guns, instead of sending one of her minions?
While the idea sorta make sense, the execution was way off.
