About the Author
I became an avid reader at a very early age, thanks to my dad who introduced me to many great books. The writing bug bit me much later, on a rainy afternoon, when I couldn’t find any new book to read. My daughter had enough of my moping around and snapped at me, “Mom, stop whining! If you haven’t a book to read, then write one.” Her challenge shocked me, but I started playing with the idea. What if there is a secret society with strict rules and laws exist hidden among us? What if certain members come to possess magical powers? What if those abilities could be used to do good or evil? I’ve never excelled in following rules or formulas, so I discarded the instructions I found in “how to write fiction” books, and made up my personal rules. At first, I started playing with the story just for my own enjoyment, I thought, writing the swirling ideas in my head was far better than being haunted by them. I kept writing for months, and soon I realized that I never had so much fun doing anything in my life before.

Ilona's journey begins exactly where Protected by the Falcon ended with no gaps or wondering what happened in between. I enjoyed the story line and diary entries by different characters to add perspective to things that were happening to all of them. Chosen by the Sword brought even more havoc to Ilona's life and those around her. She has many choices or decisions to make to keep the world from falling into chaos and the time between past and present brings a lot of change. More than half of Book 2 took place in the past where she had to find her legacy and accept or deny blessings bestowed upon her. When Ilona and her companions return to the present, things are not the same as when they left. I will not spoil the epic ending with hints, just say that everything happened the way it should have. A perfect story except for the few bad words which in my opinion were not needed and not suitable for younger readers even though they may hear it all the time!
But jumping around time and space is getting tiresome, and everyone wants to get back to their original lives.
At least at first.
But as real time goes on, secrets are revealed, new relationships forged, and old ways questioned. It is hard for any of them to believe the hold that Morana had on them all, even to being able to “read” all of their diaries—which they had been obliged to keep since their coming-of-age.
Ilona’s powers grow quickly, and she soon finds that she is not merely a doctor with an ability to heal by touch—she is more important to the lives and futures of her people than she would have ever guessed.
Another fantastic offering by Erika Szabo. Always exciting, never a dull moment. I’m so glad I got the chance to read this series. Concise, witty, historically colorful—a not-to-be-missed tale!
Any reader who enjoys fantasy and paranormal spiced with romance and a generous measure of danger will enjoy this series. I highly recommend it!
