Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book thoroughly reviews adult and pediatric electrocardiography with an emphasis on the clinical manifestations of disease and the scientific basis for the electrocardiogram. New chapters cover ICD and pacemaker tracings with expanded coverage on stress testing. New sections explore the rhythm problems associated with pediatric obesity, heart failure, and athletics. The authors have created a useful new edition that is an indispensable reference source for ECG principles and applications. It delivers clinically relevant guidance on all of today's electrocardiographic applications, provides many useful illustrations, and is full of sample ECGs." - Doody's ***

I am a second-year resident in internal medicine in Italy, and I have read many ECG books. This has soon become my reference. It is an advanced, complete, and very practical book: the pathophisiology and electrophisiology are limited to what is really needed to understand the clinical implications, and the ECG is appropriately considered to be only a part of the clinical investigation. The authors seems to be people that go around the wards, and not cardiologists who sit in their office reading ECGs without any contact with the real world. I have particularly appreciated two sections. The first is the one on ischemia, in which each ECG is completed with the description of the echocardiogram and the angiography of the same patient. The second is the one on electrolyte's and drug's effect on the ECG. I have always found this one to be a terrible subject, and I was surprised to find a well written and interesting chapter.

The best book for in-depth interpretation of ECGs, most useful for cardiology fellows and cardiologists. Clinical and evidence-based correlations are well stated. EP correlations are well explained. Criteria for every ECG abnormality you may think of are very well detailed and clarified, with citation of clinical and epidemiologic studies.Better than MArriot's book. If you are looking for a summarized yet decent approach to ECG reading with nice ECG tests and examples, then "Cardiology handbook for clinicians" by Hanna (which also has a decent and thorough review of clinical cardiology), and "Complete ECG guide" by OKeefe are appropriate options.

Great book. Many of the "unpublished" statements raise the concern as to the veracity and clinical relevance of these data. The old Friedman and Schamroth text though are very good and complement this text. I still prefer this text over the old Marriot's although I haven't read the new Marriot.

I think this is an excellent book for anyone interested in the interpretation of EKG's. It may be a little advanced for medical students but I think residents and fellows would benefit from at least reading a few of the chapters. The ones on ST elevations especially are good. This is definitely not a book that you can read in one sitting, however I think if you tackle it a little bit at a time it's definitely manageable.

the text about the fundamentals of the normal ecg are not good, but I presume that this is not the objective of the authors. the part that is directed to the ecg in the several clinical conditions is very good and, afterall, that was what I expected when I have bought it. sorry for my bad english.

Where Marriott’s "Practical Electrocardiography" (8ed) is invaluable for its overall approach to the ECG, Chou’s is my reference when I want a more detailed information on a specific topic. It’s much more dense with details than Marriott’s, and as a result, not quite as readable - but I love having it around.

I certainly wouldn't recommend it to someone who is new to EKG's (way too advanced), but for the intermediate reader who has already finished an introductory text this can be a nice next step - though a large one.

I’ve haven’t read it cover to cover like Marriott’s but I probably open it more often these days. In this age of endless free ECG education online it takes something extra for me to recommend spending money on a text, but this one gets my vote. Maybe not at the full "new" price, but maybe a used copy is worth the cost if you're really serious about electrocardiography.

Now here is the outstanding textbook that I so wished that I had available to me during my American Heart Association Fellowship on our East Coast in Cardiovascular Medicine. Moreover it would have been valuable when I taught Basic Cardiac Life Support {B.C.L.S.} in and during my Army Active-Reserve Service as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (mobilization/designation) at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medicine Center [DDEAMC} at Fort Gordon, Georgia and during my Far-East Active Duty Army Deployment as well; and during my teaching Technology Review (Rhythm Recognition) in and during my teaching Advanced Cardiac Life Support {A.C.L.S.} here in Rural—Appalachia.
A copy of this outstanding text should be in all of our College of Medicine Libraries and in all of our Advanced Practice Provider {Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associates} Libraries.
I plan to keep my copy handy on my desk for teaching for U.S.M.L.E. III; as well as Boards in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics; and, in Family Medicine.
