This brush does not hurt. Every pin end is rounded. I tried it on my arm and it felt ok, so I tried it on the dog. He actually licked my face. He then let me brush most of his body in one sitting. That was huge because usually he'd get very irritated by me brushing him and get up and walk away.
This brush made his fur, which we washed a few weeks ago, look brand new. It got so soft and lovely. It also seemed to get down in the depths of his beard area where it can get particularly dense and no brush I have can get all the way in there.
The fur that accumulates on the brush comes off like a dream. I used to have to take a comb and scrape it out of the other pin brush. This is not like that. It almost floats off the brush. That alone is just wonderful. Plus no sharp pins to stab me as I remove the fur from the brush. The fur also accumulates on the brush very nicely, not jammed in.
As I said, even up until I was opening the package I was thinking that's a pricey brush, but it is worth it. After using it just a few times, I say it is so worth it and your dog will be so happy.
Each time I used it on him, I got my face licked and he actually stayed there looking content. This has never happened before.
I now look forward to brushing him and, with such a fluffy, double-coated, long-haired dog, I brush him almost daily.
The handle is feels nice in the hand. It looks like a well-made quality brush.
The pins are 27cm, which are a bit longer than the basic one I had gotten in the store. They aren't oddly long in person, they look normal.
Here's the "BUT":
The one CON I will say about this brush is that I've noticed that the pins seem much more partial to "sinking" into the cushion at the brush tip than they used to be. ? I try to pull them back up, but they sink back down as soon as I begin to re-brush. It's not a lot of pins -- just a few at the tips, but still....it shouldn't happen as her hair, while thick, is not matted. I first noticed this issue with my last brush (lasted me 2 yrs). This pin problem had never happened before, and I was a bit surprised since my little dog is now in a puppy clip vs long coat. I hope this is not a sign that the quality is dipping, because the price certainly has not.
I just ordered a new brush. If the pins sink again, I'll be deducting a star from my review. My furbaby's coat rarely has problematic mats, therefore I shouldn't expect to have pin issues with this brush. On the other hand, I have never had any "bent pin" issues with the CC brushes, so that is a huge plus.
I hope my new brush will last as long as my original CC brushes. Maybe I just got a lemon on my last order. *hoping!*
If not, I may have to look at the #1AllSystems or Vellus brushes next time. :/
****UPDATE: July 2014
My above purchase CC brush is still like new! I guess the issue I had with the CC brush was just an odd one. My latest brush works perfectly. I love it!
What impressed me first when it arrived was doing the "The Tip Test"; the description states to take the brush and run the pins down your arm. I was *very* surprised that the pins did not leave a single mark! The pins are individually rounded and polished and this quality and attention to detail definitely shows.
Next I lightly brushed my pup to introduce him to this new tool. He's not a huge fan of being brushed but this was a much better grooming session than usual because the brush did not tangle in the hair as it usually does and the width of the paddle made things go fairly quickly. The handle length and shape are comfortable to hold without any hand or wrist fatigue, even with my arthritis. We finished in record time and I have to say the result was that his coat looked noticeably better than with the other brush and tools we had been using.
This brush definitely lives up to its description. In my opinion, the cost is definitely justified by the quality.
Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommended!
