Editorial Reviews

The Nerdist himself, Chris Hardwick, celebrates all things nerdy in his first Comedy Central special. Hipsters beware: there is no irony in Chris’s affinity for Captain Picard, Comic-Con and the Atari 2600. Mandroid features candid tales that cover virginity, chess club, shark vaginas, awkward childhood, awkward adulthood (which in his case is an extension of childhood) and a myriad of other topics which may or may not include Quidditch. This extended and uncensored DVD is a wonderland of discovery, and if you take but one life lesson from it, let it be “Don’t f**k animals”. </blurb>

If you watched the Comedy Central special, as I did, you'll be happy to know that there is about 25 more minutes of material in this version. Most of the material that didn't make it into the TV special was just as good as the rest, but there were several segments that were more risque than anything that aired on Comedy Central. It's nothing that would shock a regular listener of Hardwick's podcast, The Nerdist, but probably a little more than the censors on a basic cable channel would be happy with.

Overall, it's a very strong and polished set of nerd-leaning stand-up which I would happily recommend to comedy fans.

As stand-up, Chris Hardwick has all the tools: not merely presence, timing, and physicality, but also an unusual density of material. Mr. Hardwick has a point of view that is relentlessly both warm and analytic that also manages to be heartfelt, puerile, and hysterical all in the same furry bundle. Fans of his book and The Nerdist Podcast will not be disappointed. Fans of the NFL and The Sportist podcast may (may) be less enthusiastic. A flagon of mead should be raised in the name of Squire Hardwick.

The only problem with the DVD is that we had to wait so long for it to be released; I've been waiting by my mailbox since November. And it's been snowing and cold. So cold.

Chris Hardwick is hilarious wherever he shows up be it on The Talking Dead, Chelsea Lately, Attack of the Show (RIP), and, of course, his own stand-up special, which covers a an array of situations anybody who considers themselves geeky will have experienced. LOLed quite a few times as did my friend who was watching it with me. Nerds rule the world and Chris Hardwick is our official jester!

I have been a fan of Chris Hardwick since he started showing up on Talk Soup a few years ago. I love watching him on Talking Dead and @Midnight is one of my new favorite shows. This stand-up special from 2012 is so funny - I never stopped laughing. Chris is never shy about telling embarrassing stories about himself and those stories are hilarious. My favorite was about his mother buying him hamsters to mate. Chris always says he's a nerd but after watching this I think he's a talented, funny, and very handsome guy. I'm looking forward to his next Comedy Central special.

Chris knows his audience well. This may not be for everyone, but if you have a love what is deemed nerd culture (a lot of this stuff can be enjoyed by the non-"classic" nerd, too), you will enjoy his special as much as I did.

I watched this at first on Comedy Central when they showed the special on Tv. I knew that almost all comedy videos had stuff that had been taken out due to the maturity rating, so I had to get this DVD to see what else Chris had said.

My husband and I both love this DVD, and the extras are really fun. The extras include a couple of songs from Chris' musical group, Hard and Phirm, which is a real treat.

Chris Hardwick has quickly become one of my favorite celebs. It is hard to believe that this is the same guy from Singled Out, but it's him. The special starts off a bit slow, but once he gets past the corn jokes (which were wisely left out for the televised special), the laughs are quick and numerous. I look forward to one day seeing him live.

Chris Hardwick embraces his Nerdishness, and we the fans love it! This is a hysterical comedy show and it makes me proud to be a Nerd! Watch this, watch @Midnight and the Nerdist, and rejoice in being a NERD!
