through journaling, thought questions and a prayer focus. A "Sweet Tea Moment" provides daily challenge. This is an excellent book for those who are new to using devotionals or journaling.
"God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea" does that with a journal like format. Composed of a single chapter, followed by a page with writing prompts, scriptures and even suggested readings from the Bible, the reader is treated with "mini bites" of Rose Johnson personal life experiences and intertwined with a message of hope, encouragement and gentle nudges toward seeking God.
I love this book. The cover is personal and inviting. It's like a friend at a table saying, relax, breathe and do you need to talk?
The content may seem short, but when you begin working the prompts that Ms. Johnson shares, I found myself not only reflecting on what she had shared herself and looking at her prompts through the lens of the Bible, but turning introspective looks at myself and asking myself, what is God seeking to use? to draw out? to encourage? to teach?
This is a devotional.
Having read, "Our Daily Bread", "God, Me and Sweet Tea" really brings out the essence of what the ODB devotional is about and for those who maybe new to Christ, growing or even Mature Christians, with the added bonus of having writing prompts that encourages the reader to really reflect on what they are reading.
This is good for those who are new to having a Quiet time using a devotional or new to bible journaling, as well as those who are looking for guided formats that will encourage as a writer, journaler or even just the casual reader, to find ways to really reflect deeper in what on Christian may have to share and encourage to another.
Back to the format, I am still impressed by the journal feel of the book. The stories are short and the applications really deepen the experiences that Ms. Johnson has to share. For me the standout is having the journal pages alongside the chapters and I was tempted at having the book spiral bounded for more ease of use, but at the same time, didn't want to, due to the fact, this is a book that I knew I will find myself re-visiting later on or wanting to lend out for a friend, family or other to be just as challenged and encouraged as I found myself.
Ms.Johnson is warm, open, encouraging and giving as seen throughout her book and she lays a honest look at the Christian walk that is like a sweet glass of tea on a Southern evening, bringing the reader into God word for a deeper look at how He can both encourage, comfort and strengthen ones life.
I appreciate how she laid open her heart and love for the Lord and bring it clearly in her writing. This is a book that I hope others looking for a devotional will not only consider, but share with others.
