I only knew of Hudson Taylor and Corrie Ten Boom by name, and I only vaguely knew the stories. These books filled them in quite well. For adults, of course, you'd probably read The Hiding Place, for Corrie Ten Boom (which I have not yet got to); but I as an adult learned a lot from this book.
The other ones in this series I found fascinating. The biography of Nate Saint here in this series is, in my opinion, quite a bit more interesting and detailed than the corresponding biography of Jim Eliot later in the series; it actually explains their death together much better, with a lot more details on the aftermath. Nate Saint is a much more approachable character than Jim Eliot, as well, and my kids definitely enjoyed it more (but they like the Jim Eliot story too).
The Gladys Aylward story pretty much blew my mind. I consider it a pretty severe defect in my Christian education that I had not heard this story. Wow. God chooses the most unlikely people.
I found myself personally inspired by a number of these stories, even as I read them to the kids.
