About the Author
Cathy and Mike Duffy began home schooling their three sons, Chris, Josh, and Matt, in 1982.
In preparation for home education, Cathy began researching curriculum the year before they began. The two older boys, Chris and Josh, have completed their studies at home and gone on to college, while Matt is studying part time at college as he finishes up his last few classes at home. Because of the needs of her children and the struggles other home educators endured trying to determine what materials to use, she continued researching and began compiling and sharing information. She has written many articles for home education magazines and is the author of the Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manuals for Elementary Grades and Junior/Senior High. Cathy also shares her expertise as a curriculum consultant to individuals, publishers, and distributors. When she can manage a break from the home education routine and her busy family, she speaks at home education events around the country.
Curriculum research led Cathy into the wider realm of education policy. She shares the results of her research into Goals 2000, outcome-based education, and educational vouchers in her book, Government Nannies: the Cradle-To-Grave Agenda of Goals 2000 and Outcome-Based Education.
Cathy has also been active in local and statewide home schooling organizations and activities. She served as a board member for Christian Home Educators Association of California and as coordinator and board member of Christian Family Educators of Orange County, California. She has also helped with science and art fairs, organized park days and picnics, organized and taught group classes.

I began reading this book hoping that it would answer a few more questions that I had about curriculum; however, it opened up even more ideas that I had never even thought about. I expected to close the book with a head full of pointers. Well, I got that, and so much more! There is a whole world of possibilities out there for today's home-schooler. It was a lengthy, detailed, inspirational read. I recommend it to anyone that has already made the decision to home school, but needs the knowledge to pick a curriculum that is tailored to the child. This book has a wealth of information within its covers.
I appreciate Cathy Duffy's section on learning styles, but got frustrated at the layout of the book. It's not very easy to read. Not very user-friendly and the whole book is rather dull. Also, what I truly wish is that she would have gone into FAR more detail with regards to SPECIFIC learning styles and SPECIFIC products. She does this to a certain degree, but it's all rather cursory. Her review and the whole book, therefore, seems as if it's incomplete.
