This contains a very creative and sensible proposal for the Mid East. Schwimmer docments quite well that it is impossible for Christians to freely practice their religion in any of the Muslim majority countries in the Mid East. Only in Israel, where the Christian population has tripled since Israel was founded, is it possible for a Christian to practice his religion, and to have his property rights protected by the government.
Schwimmer shows that the solution to this sad state of affairs is to form a Christian majority state in the Mid East. Israel could immediately allow such a state to be formed in parts of Judea which includes Bethlehem, the birthplace of Christ. Such a state could welcome the 7.5 million Christian Copts in Egypt who are now being persecuted even more after the recent elections brought to power the Islamists. It could also be a welcome enclave for the 2.5 million Christians in Syria if the Islamists take over from Assad there.
A Christian state would be a welcome ally for Israel in the region and provide a useful buffer. The state could immediately sign a mutual defense pact with Israel and the United States should recognize such a state. Such a new Christian majority state would also gain the support of the world's 2.6 billion Christians, who would no doubt increase their tourism dollars spent in the area.
Schwimmer's proposal is undoubtedly better than the 2 state solution so frequently discussed. One more Muslim state among the 22 already existing in the Mid East would be nothing for the rights of Christian minorities to practice their religion; and with 22 existing Muslim states, it can hardly be said that Muslims lack the opportunity to practice their faith in the Mid East.
