Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

John Eidsmoe rights the faulty historical record and correctly brings us back to the roots that made America great . . . clearly demonstrates that our constitutional liberties are a direct result of our founders' moral and religious convictions which were based on a belief in a God who created heaven and earth as well as on the fixed and unchanging absolutes of God's Word.
Robert Skolrood, National Legal Foundation

Legally accurate yet easy to understand . . . presents the truth about our founding fathers and their strong Christian roots that is missing from most textbooks and reference books written during the last fifty years. Every student of American history, ministers, and public speakers should read this book. . . .
Tim LaHaye, Family Life Seminars

Combines an interesting presentation with fine scholarship and a critical m message . . . should be read by anyone interested in the Constitution or Christianity.
Wendell Bird, constitutional attorney

Knowledge of our Christian heritage is an important weapon in the current fight for religious freedom in America. Eidsmoe has given us an entire arsenal of new and important evidence substantiating the Christian roots of our government.
Mike Farris, Home School Legal Defense Association

Balanced and lucid . . . clearly documents the pervasive Christian influence on the lives and thought of those who wrote our Constitution. I recommend it highly as a corrective to the almost totally secular portrayal of the Constitution found in so many textbooks today.
Paul Vitz, author

John Eidsmoe holds five degrees in law, theology, and political science. He currently serves as professor of constitutional law and related subjects at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, Faulkner University, Montgomery, Alabama, where he received the Outstanding Professor Award in 1993. A constitutional attorney and lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he has also taught church history and other subjects in various seminaries and has produced a twelve-part video series titled The Institute on the Constitution. His other books include The Christian Legal Advisor, God and Caesar, and Columbus and Cortez.

The author of this book presents a very well researched overview of the religious and intellectual influences that helped to shape the governing document of the United States. Dr. Eidsmoe presents a detailed study of the religious beliefs of thirteen of the most influential “founders” in support of his claim that the biblical worldview was the primary foundation on which the Constitution was conceived. This is an excellent resource for someone who is convinced that the United States was founded primarily on Christian principles as well as something that should be read by anyone who is interested in this particular debate regardless of where they stand on the issue. This book is very well-written and enjoyable to read for anyone interested in the topic.

An excellent resource book on the actual history of America and it's Orthodox Protestant Christian foundation. You will not find the quotes and citations of the Founding Fathers contained in this book because anti-Christian secularists have expunged, purged and whitewashed history textbooks to remove any vestige of the truth: that the Gospel and the Word of God was/is the foundation of genuine human liberty and freedom and the foundation upon which America was founded upon. It is a MUST own resource book.

An in-depth review of the religious leanings of many of the nations founders. Most interesting to me, was the revelation that founders referenced the Bible more than any other source in their writings during the decades 1760-1805, during the formative years of this nation's government. As one of the reviewers' cited on the back cover states, the book "clearly demonstrates that our constitutional liberties are a direct result of our our founders moral and religious convictions which were based on a belief in a God who created heaven and earth as well as on the fixed and unchanging absolutes of God's word."

I love this book because it tells the real history of our founding fathers -- there's a chapter on every one of them and then the appendix has the complete documents so you can read them yourself. Facts over fiction at it's best!!!

Dr. Eidsmoe is an amazing scholar. I have watched his lectures, and have a few of his books. If you like this book, I highly recommend his Historical and Theological Foundations of Law. I have said that if you want to believe whatever it is you believe, be knowledgeable in your convictions and presuppositions, so that if challenged, you are confident in your knowledge of that subject. There is a controversial topic of whether this country was founded on Christian beliefs and praxis, this book settles this argument.

Very well researched, yet simply written. Puts forth some different, but reasonable, theological bases for our Constitution with supporting evidence. Easy and enjoyable read.
