From the Author
"Christianity For Dummies" is a friendly, approachable guide that introduces readers to the Christian faith and Church, putting into everyday language what exactly it means to be a "Christian".
The book is for anyone who is curious about Christianity -- both people who are not Christians and those on the periphery of the Church. However, it is also for Christians who are interested in discovering more about their faith.
To borrow the words of C.S. Lewis, "Christianity For Dummies" focuses the majority of its coverage on "mere Christianity", the core essentials of the Christian faith that all believers, regardless of their background, agree to. At the same time, areas of difference wont be swept under the table. When debatable topics arise, the book will highlight the differences that exist among various parts of the Church and faithfully represent these positions.
Christians believe that God created all things, including a sense of humor. "Christianity For Dummies" embraces that view as it tackles a traditionally serious topic with the familiar Dummies style of wit and irreverent humor. As it does so, the book strikes an appropriate balance between funniness and a keen sensitivity and respect for the subject matter, such that even the most pious saint can chuckle without finding offense.

About the author

I have authored several books, focusing on two very different aspects of my life and professional focus. On the faith front, I am author of "The Expeditionary Man", "The Myth of Happiness", and several "For Dummies" books designed to make meaty truth easily approachable for postmodern readers. These books include "C.S. Lewis & Narnia For Dummies", "Christianity For Dummies", and "Christian Prayer For Dummies".
On the technology front, I have authored several web tech books as well, such as "Adobe AIR For Dummies", "XSLT For Dummies" and "Building Facebook Applications For Dummies".
I work as Senior Developer for Maark, a strategic and interactive B2B marketing firm in Boston. Previously, I was V.P. of Product Development at NetObjects, an Internet software company, as well as inventor/architect of NetObjects ScriptBuilder.
I graduated from Taylor University and pursued graduate studies at American University. Though a native Hoosier, I now live in Princeton, Massachusetts with my wife and three boys.

Richard Wagner wrote this book in order for Christians to go deeper into their faith and to introduce the curious to Christianity in a really fun way. This book made me laugh out loud at least five times and I thought the cartoons by Rich Tennant were really cute. Richard Wagner also knows how to address some thorny issues with class. There are also explanations of buzz words like "born again."
This book briefly covers the ideas of Protestants, Catholics and Orthodox believers and explains a little of their history. You will learn how certain denominations came to be and how some of the ideas of each denomination differ. In this way you can pick which church you'd like to belong to. I found that I grew up in Protestant churches but I had some Catholic friends who were very dedicated and made me realize how important religion is to people.
I felt this book presented ideas in a very thoughtful manner. There is an entire chapter on Jesus' life and ministry which is very interesting. I also enjoyed reading about the ten Christian holy days and learned about Maundy Thursday which I'd never heard of before. There is a brief chapter on Christian leaders you should know about.
Some of the other things this book discusses includes science, evolution, postmodern ideas, New Testament teachings, relativism, the Trinity, worship (how churches each have their own unique ways of worship), sin, temptation, modern Christianity, salvation, the resurrection, sacraments, heaven, hell, traditions, why bad things happen and so much more...
I can highly recommend this book to anyone curious about Christianity. This will give you a good foundation in religious belief and it will teach you important things that could determine your eternity.

easy read and makes sense, not of the religion, but to why people believe what they believe, excellent point of reference when dealing with people of strong Christian faith.
Also want to add if you want to read about Catholicism you should buy that book, this book is about Christianity. No point in getting all uppity about anti-catholic if you didn’t buy that book. Always someone looking to complain.
I would highly recommend this warm and straight to the point book for all those curiosities and explanations. Written by someone who has quite obviously been on a Christian path for quite some time 🙏🏻
Thank you to the author
