To start-- the voice talent is great. Tim Curry is OK as Scrooge, but Michael York is great as Cratchit. Bob can come off in film versions as a bit of a dolt, but York gives him a little life. The other voice talent (including Jodi Benson who voiced the Little Mermaid for Disney) are all fine. So why the three stars? The story itself was pretty standard and the animation really added nothing. And the dog-- oh, the dog. It was so totally out of place in this. The cartoon plays the story straight but then we add a dog that's just this side of Scooby Doo (ironically voiced by Scooby Doo veteran Frank Welker). It jars and really isn't funny at all. I suspect it was added to keep the little kids happy. The music is forgettable. But by all means watch if you are a Christmas Carol completist. Its pleasant enough, just not great.
