When Garrison grew up, he worked in Uganda for a number of years. Shortly after he came back to the states, his Grandma died. Her one request was for Garrison to find good homes for her six cats. This involved a long list of requirements for the potential owners, and included a surprise generous gift for the new owners. Grandma had also hoped Garrison would find his love and remain in her home. The placing of the cats almost seemed miraculous for both the cats and the new owners.
Thoroughly enjoyed this seasonal story. Loved how each cat found their perfect owners. The friendships, problems and community part of this story was excellent. I always have enjoyed Melody Carlson's books, and this was just as sweet and emotional as all her other stories.

Garrison Brown unexpectedly returns from nine years in Uganda (where he was helping to build wells), as he has contracted malaria. As he recovers, Garrison hears that his beloved Gram has died, and it is his job to find homes for her six precious cats. Garrison is allergic to cats, but finds that it is not just a quick give-away to new homes, but that Gram has laid down stipulations for re-housing them.
Garrison finds that as time passes, so he does bond with the cats, especially Harry, but his life does not include room for six cats.
Garrison has a dream to set up a half way house for young men. As Elliot, his Gram's neighbours grandson helps Garrison to spruce up the house for sale, so Garrison determines that there really is a need out there.
As a crazy cat owner myself (to five little beauties), I found The Christmas Cat to be a totally engaging novel from start to finish. I loved the descriptions of the individual cats, each with their own personalities and needs. My personal favourite was Muzzy, the very 'chatty' Siamese.
I have found that no-one writes Christmas books quite like Melody Carlson, and I am always torn between devouring and savouring her books!
If you like cats, Christmas and a hint of romance, then The Christmas Cat is for you - whatever the season.
I think the strongest point of the writing in this book is the character development. You really feel that you know these people: what they think, their emotions...very well done in that regard.
I especially loved the spirit of Garrison's grandmother, which added a special touch to the entire book.
I read most of the story in one afternoon, wanting to find out what would happen next. Something that doesn't happen often enough with the many eBooks that I read. This one held my attention and I was sorry to see the last page.
I also laughed and cried at times, touched by the emotions this story evoked.
A must read for those who love cats in particular but would touch anyone with a soft spot for pets, Christmas dreams coming true and second chances!
