Why couldn't Elijah ("Lijah" to family & friends) remain happy with any of his boyfriends? Always finding fault and eventually dumping the guys. Guys who remarkably resemble the man he'd fallen in love with years ago, while they both were still teens. A man he is finally ready to declare his love to. So what if his best friend Ricky has always been straight. Elijah just knows Ricky feels as strongly as he does.
Scott Whitmore formerly a recluse following the death of his parents. A Jack of all Trades. He believes Failure is the norm - How else do you discover what you're really good at? He's gotten really close to the Gray family after moving to the quaint town of Zephyr Heights. He loves baking - especially cookies, as much as the local grand champion of the annual Bake-Offs, Mrs Gray.
Mrs Gray is a very proud mother who eagerly spoke about her son, Elijah who lives in San Francisco. As did her jovial husband and moody teenage daughter, Dani. When Elijah returns home for a Christmas vacation, Scott feels he knows a lot about him, but truly wants to get to know him as a real person, not the caricature he has made up in his mind based on all the stories he's been told, as well as pictures shown.
From the beginning Elijah is determined to dislike Scott. He is sure his mother is up to her matchmaking tricks again. The two men are polar opposites. As Elijah states more than once, Scott's blond hair and blue eyes have never been his type. He is glum and grouchy, while Scott is the life of every party. Scott's glass is half full and Elijah is thirsty & angry with his half empty life.
Then what is it about Elijah's demeanour that makes Scott use the nickname, "Bubbles" to describe him? And why is Elijah noticing how big and strong Scott is? And how delicious his cookies are, but of course they don't even begin to compare to his mother's baking prowess. Yet despite his strong attraction to dark hair & eyes, Elijah is finding that the old adage is true concerning the way to a man's heart being his stomach, especially if he has a sweet tooth. And Scott seems to know just what snare / lure to use to capture young Mr Gray's attention...let's just say they leave crumbs behind.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet Christmas tale with just enough vinegar so that you don't get a sugar high.

Elijah, who has moved to San Francisco is home for the holidays. The story line involes his family, who are a riot, as well as his straight best friend and a newcomer to the small town. Elijah's mother is trying to match him up with the newcomer, while Elijah wants to continue to pine for his best friend. There were a lot of LOL moments, with a sweet sexy love story. Also the excellent writing we all have come to expect from Tricia. I highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily agreed to review this book.
I'll admit, at first I didn't really care for Elijah. But then a magical thing happened- character development and self revelations! Tricia wrote the transitioning perfectly, and by the end of the book I was so happy for Elijah and Scott. As much as Elijah tried to deny it, Scott complimented him very nicely, and vice versa.
One warning though: This book will make you crave baked goods! Lol, I was so happy to have apple pie at Thanksgiving to settle some cravings the book bestowed.
Well written and the sexy parts are fantastic.
