The hero, Clayton, is the book boyfriend of dreams. From the top of his gorgeously written head to the tips of his cowboy boots he was written with the word HERO in mind. Way to go, Donna Grant. The heroine, Abby, is his perfect match. I was rooting for her from her first appearance. The secondary characters made just as much impact to the feeling of the story as theism characters. To me a book is successful if at the end I would want to be friends with the characters if they were real people. As I mentioned earlier, the bad guys are evil enough to be scary, but in a realistic sort of way. I can't tell you how many times a story has been ruined for me by characters that are too evil to fit the story. Not that Ms. Grant doesn't do evil characters well (hello! Warriors and Dark Kings series), but she knows that that type doesn't fit into 'real life' genres. Again I say, way to go, Ms. Grant.
I've been a fan of Donna Grant for years and she's yet to disappoint me with a book. If she keeps coming up with stories like this I'll be a fan for many years to come.
Clayton East is a retired Navy SEAL working in South Africa protecting wild life. He gets a call from home that will send him back to Texas, the last place he wants to be.
Abby Harper has had some tough breaks in life, her mom took off eight years ago and left her as guardian to her two younger brothers. For the last eight years everything has been a struggle. The latest being her brother Brice getting arrested for cattle rustling.
Sparks fly when Clayton and Abby meet.
Story of a woman who is raising her brothers, and a guy who came back to the family ranch after being a Navy SEAL! Lots of baggage that they overcome- her brother gets into trouble- I love a happy ending!!
