This book treats the subject matter with honesty, clarity, and adds the touches of humor needed to balance the heavy subject matter. Chautona is a master storyteller and one of her greatest gifts is to come at topics from a new viewpoint to help you really think about it. She does that here managing to offer more than one type of adulterer to show that it's a many layer issue and deserves us doing more than burying our heads in the sand about it.
You will be entertained, you will think about things that are (probably) uncomfortable, you will meet characters that you will hope appear in other stories in the future, and you might even meet a character or two that you hope never show their faces again in Chautona's writings. I highly recommend this book.
"Christmas Embers" is...
A novel that is moving, honest, raw, and heart rendering.
A novel that will pull at your heart and soul. Tear parts of them down and build them back up slowly.
A novel unlike anything Chautona Havig has ever written. An overwhelming yet phenomenal read.
A novel that will have you feeling so many emotions at the same time.
A novel that will have you thinking about what you would do if this happened to you. With several different perspectives and points of view presented, the reader takes all that information and truly thinks about what choices they would make.
A novel so rich in its writing, its plot and its characters.
A novel that is easily one of the top five I have read this year and possibly in the last five years.
The dichotomy of the 2 households facing this, one descending to bitterness and resentment, the other struggling desperately not to, was honest, and eye opening!
I would recommend this book for age 16 and up (14-17 being read with someone trustworthy and discussed, if the parents are dealing with unfaithfulness).
My favorite quote from the book is, "Sin is always a horrible thing, but it should never be allowed to divide the Lord's body." ~Vince (Christmas Embers)

This is quite a story. Emily and Sean think they have a great marriage but something from the past could destroy it if they let it.Read more
