Marley Adams is a computer programmer / code writer for apps and moved away from Diamond Creek after graduation to prove her independence. She has no desire to have a relationship and doesn't see herself as someone that anybody would look at twice. She leaves Seattle to come home to Diamond Creek after she walks in on a robbery at her apartment and its assaulted to feel safe and get her life back.
When these two meet by accident the first time sparks fly but neither understand what is happening. When Marley helps Gage with setting up a web site to get the ski lodge re opening out to the public things really heat up between them and Gage starts to feel he has no control when it comes to Marley. When Marley is threatened Gage steps in to protect her and get to the bottom of things, and with his sister's help, he realizes he can't imagine his life without her.
J. H. Croix does it again with this book!!! It has romance, believable characters, close family and friends, suspense and its totally HOT. I loved that some of the places and people from the Diamond Creek series show up from time to time but you don't have to read them to understand this book but why miss out on some great reads.
I was given this ARC in exchange for my honest review...but I also bought the book to support a great author. Thank you J. H. Croix!!!
I was given an ARC of this book, for my honest review.
There wasn't any inane misunderstandings between Marley and Gage, but I was puzzled about the inner turmoil each seemed to have about the relationship. They're both unattached, so the "how can I do this/can we possibly have a relationship?" stuff seemed really weird. I guess I really didn't buy into all the insecurity.
Gage, for all his ex-SEAL/control freak ways, totally came unglued when it came to Marley and the aftermath of her being the victim of a home robbery (that happened in Seattle). He and his friend Aiden (another ex-SEAL) seemed a little inept when it came to keeping Marley safe.
I liked the supporting characters, especially Don and Ginger.
Marley had returned to Diamond Creek, Alaska where she grew up after being robbed. She had arrived at her her apartment was to find a robber there when then pistol whipped her and pushed her into a corner while ransacked the place and cleaned out her apartment. She felt safe now she was back home where she grew up staying in the cottage her parents used to rent out but no longer did. She was walking the old ski trail on the now closed ski resort when she was told that she was trespassing. When she saw the owner of the voice who had spoken to her she was taken aback. He was a gorgeous man and she was instantly drawn to him and he likewise. They were drawn to each other and neither one had any experience with love relationships and neither knew how to express or deal with their feelings. It would take family; friends to make them realize what they felt for each other and would they act on it or walk away…
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Gage Hamilton retired as navy SEAL to go back to his hometown, Diamond Creek, Alaska, to resurrect a dream: reopen his childhood refuge, the Last Frontier Lodge, complete with cabin, restaurant, and ski lifts, that had been closed for a decade. There he ran into Marley Adams, another Diamond Creek girl coming home... forced there after she was shaken up by a home invasion robbery at her Seattle residence. Both were too busy to date before the came home, and both felt the sizzle, but neither quite knew hoe to proceed. When whatever had menaced Marley in Seattle followed her to Diamond Creek, can Gage and his friends help protect her? And will there be a kiss under the mistletoe after all?
The sexual tension was nicely written, and the idea that home robbery was a bit more than first suspected was fun, but the ending was too quick, IMHO, and relied on a bit more violence against woman to carry it off, but everything was competently done to warrant an
