About the Author

Greta Burroughs loves to read. No matter where she is, there is always a book close at hand. Her love of reading began at an early age and blossomed over time to include many different genres, her favorite now being fantasy. As a preschool and elementary school teacher, Greta tried to instill the joy of reading in the children she worked with. Books were an important part of her classroom and story time was the highlight of the day. It has been a while since Greta was in a classroom but she had lots of experience in reading to children of various ages and remembers what they enjoyed listening to. "A Delightful and Worthy Children's Story"

This is a very enjoyable, fun book to read to young children. The illustrations created by Jennifer Bastow are delightful. If a child already has a joyful doggy or kitty, they will really enjoy hearing this tale of Patchy the Dog and Calico the Cat. Patchy and Calico wake in the morning and want to stay nestled in bed. But after hearing soft sounds outside their window, they are thrilled to see that it has been snowing. Snow! Patchy loves snow and he wants to run in it and also make a snowman ... one that can walk and talk! Calico is Patchy's buddy so wants to help build his snowman. Calico gets to the top of the hill first and already has snowman's head made and decorated. Patchy is so klutzy...he kept sliding backwards on the hill. He watches boys on sleds going down the hill that looks like more fun, but he'll wait until the snowman is finished. He was building a ball of snow, pushing it through the snow to make it bigger. Oops! He goes over the edge and rolls with the snowball and when it stops at the bottom of the hill ... well, he's in the middle of the huge snowball! Now, the snowball can walk and talk! This is an amazing, wonderfully written story that is totally entertaining as well as it presents lessons to be learned by children. There are questions at the end of each section to ask the child to see if they learned rules and if they follow them. This is only the first part. There is more to the story which are memorable and important in teaching children good-life values; i.e., giving presents, the meanings of Christmas and Hanukkah, how it feels to make others smile. It's a remarkably well presented story to read to a child over about four or five evenings. It's wonderful, wonderful ... the best children's book I've read in a long time!

This is the third Patchy & Calico book I've had the pleasure to read to my son. It's a perfect Christmas book for kids and adults. There's a lesson in every story about the true meaning of the season. Patchy learns the meaning of giving...even when you're a dog and have no money. All it takes sometimes is a small gesture, something from the heart. Follow P&C's adventures as they explore the winter wonderland outside their window and yes get into all sorts of trouble. They even teach a bully that anyone can be a friend, if they only try.
Personally, I like this series because not only do they have questions at the end of each chapter but there are plenty of opportunities within the chapter to have discussions with your child. If you haven't read their other adventures, I recommend reading them with your little ones.

Christmas with Patchy and Calico by Greta Burroughs

As in her other books, Ms. Burroughs does a fantastic job telling stories that children (and adults) can learn valuable lessons from. All of her stories have great artwork that children love.

This is the third book I have read about Patchy and Calico. The two animals are fast friends, and they both know the other pretty well. As in all good friendships, they accept the other for who they and at the same time, try and help the other grow and learn. My grandkids loved the winter time fun, the messes, and the camaraderie of the two best friends.

Once again, for me, the best part is at the end of each unique adventure three questions are asked inviting the reader to be a part of the story and allow them to apply the lessons learned to their own life. My grandkids loved that part.

I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading the other books in the series from this very talented author.

Christmas with Patchy and Calico by Greta Burroughs is another wonderful children's story.

This is the thrid book I have read about Patchy and Calico. As with Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat, the artwork for Christmas with Patchy and Calico is just as sweet and special.

The stories this time around center on winter and Christmas. Patchy and Calico are great friends and have great adventures together throughout the book. I found myself reading quickly to see what would happen next and thoroughly enjoyed the antics of these two lovable animals.

The great part is that the book is not just a story but includes lesson to learned and questions at the end to prompt conversations with your children. It was a delightful read that I whole-heartedly recommend to anyone who loves a good children's book.

As a children's book author and Illustrator myself, I sat down to read this with the clear intention of writing a solid, cohesive review. Well, so much for that. I am a sucker for puppies and kitties in general and these two take the cake. I laughed. Out loud. More than once. It's a wonderful story with bright beautiful illustrations that i see becoming a favorite of all children very soon. The story and the illustrations meld together so well, I found myself thinking, "This would be such a great cartoon!" It's engaging, it tells a great story, teaches a wonderful lesson and the kids will love it. Get it and read it to your kids...I dare you to try not to laugh out loud.
