My New Fave Christmas Album!

Most enjoyable Christmas CD! It's very swingy, which I LOVE and every song is good. I like this one way better than the one she put out in 2014. If you love upbeat Christmas music with a swing, you'll love this. The song 'At This Table', one of the new songs here, is also lovely, moving, and will make you cry... in a good way. Her rendition of O Holy Night/Ave Maria is absolutely beautiful and her voice is in top form. It will get you emotional, guaranteed! 'I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm' with Billy Porter is amazing and will have you dancing around. And 'We Wish You the Merriest' with Josh Gad is adorable. The one with Ariana Grande, 'Let's Hear It for Mrs Claus', is new and was written by Frozen scribe Kristen Anderson-Lopez. It's lots of fun as well. There's even a Latino Hanukkah song(!), 'Ocho Kanelitas' and a beautiful, touching version of 'Auld Lang Syne' as well. Highly recommend!

There are some really great songs here, and the quality is much more consistent (and upbeat!) than Idina's previous Christmas album. Highlights include the duet with Billy Porter, a powerhouse performance of We Need a Little Christmas, and the brassy, rollicking original Christmas Just Ain't Christmas.

There are some truly bizarre moments though, as well. While fun, the Ariana Grande duet A Hand for Mrs. Claus is a strangely sexualized ode to Santa's wife. Josh Gad's guest vocals on We Wish You the Merriest are obnoxious and unnecessary (except as a way to capitalize on Frozen 2). The reworking of Seasons of Love from RENT is overly schmaltzy.

Overall this is a fine addition to a collection of holiday albums, but it's not one I'll put on repeat every year. One play-through a year will suffice.

My husband bought me four Christmas cds...this was, by far, my least favorite. She's a screaming machine. I just don't care for her style of singing, I guess. She has a beautiful voice but needs to tone it down. I don't want to listen to a broadway play in my living room during the holiday season.

This is a great selection of Christmas songs. I loved all the songs, although there were some I didn't previously know, and assume they well-known in America. The only flaw is a brief, nondescript interlude involving her son, which I have edited for my Walkman (Why do great performers have to force this upon us?) Overall, another great album from one of my favourite singers.
