Betsy and Tommy were just packing up to head to her parents cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains for Christmas. She had gone through some medical problems but the latest results from the nurse made her think everything was going to be ok.
She had tried to get pregnant but the medical procedures made it almost impossible for her to conceive.
The plan was for her to cut back on her hours at the hospital being a nurse and to take more college courses but she couldn't tell him yet if she got the classes she wanted.
He got secrets and a surprise for her and she has secrets and a surprise for him.
They get a surprise first thing the next morning from the Peters, next door...and she guesses what Betsy's gift is.
Lots of hot steamy romantic sex in this one make it a really good short story.
Finding herself unexpectantly pregnant, Betsy Reed is in shock. She is uncertain if she is ready to be a mother and even more unsure of what her husband Tommy will think. She is also very scared that her pregnancy may end up like her sister in-laws, which resulted in her death. Betsy decides to conceal her pregnancy from Tommy until after their getaway to the Blue Ridge mountains for Christmas.
Tommy Reed cares deeply for his wife and can sense that she is keeping something from him. He is very concerned about her and hopes that she will confide in him. Tommy also has some news of his own to share. Will this Christmas be a happy one for the Reed's or will their secrets end up tearing their marriage apart?
I instantly fell in love with Tommy and Betsy. Tommy is the kind of hero that every girl dreams about. He is loving, and attentive to Betsy and her needs. The romance between the two is hot and unforgetable . At times it was laugh out loud funny and at others get the tissues out sad. My only complaint is that the story was very short, I would have loved to read more about the Reed's and would have been happy to see the story include the birth of their child.
If your looking to brighten your holiday season with a great, short story, that sparkles and shines then A Christmas Surprise is for you!

"A Christmas Surprise" by Janelle Taylor was a nice short Christmas holiday novella. This novel was of 'heart wrenching, deeply moving and emotionally fervent tale' that would keep you turning the pages until the end. With this mother finding herself pregnant Betsy Reed was in shock and wondering how her husband, Tommy would react. They had planned on waiting a while but now she was pregnant and Betsy was 'having a hard time telling her husband for fear he will not be happy.' It appears that both of these two had secrets and only if they had shared, and then their is the neighbor Peter who now had guessed what was going on. Now, this is the time you must pick up this good read to see how it will all turn out. How will Tommy's reacted to the wonderful news?
If you want to read a short story with a lots of 'sparkles and shines' especially during the holidays then I would recommend "A Christmas Surprise" for you.
It's not a bad story - Betsy and Tommy (newlyweds of one year) are headed out-of-town for Christmas. They are each keeping a secret that they need to share with the other.
What almost killed me was the sickeningly sweet dialogue. "I love this place and I love you." "Mrs. Reed, do you know how much I love you? I don't think I'll ever be able to express how I feel..." "Oh, Tommy, you are my world...." It is all just too much. Real married couples do not have these conversations.
And, who says "rear a family" or "menses" (other than Sheldon Cooper) in 2012? It just sounded outdated. They also put up a Christmas tree (lights, ornaments and all) for ONE DAY. Does anyone really do that?
2/5 for the story idea.
