Objectively, I would rate this movie at 4 stars. Subjectively, it would definitely be a 5 star on my personal list. And my question is, where IS this movie?! I've pursued it through Amazon, Blockbuster, and every other place I could think of, and it just is not available.

That is sad, because when I saw the movie originally on TV in 1996, it stayed with me, most pleasantly. The story of Sister Anthony and her 'Tree' was one of the most beautiful, charming, and memorable Christmas stories I've ever seen.

Has it never been re-shown? I don't believe so. Why has it not become a Christmas classic? And, again, why is it not available to buy or rent, at least anywhere I've found?

I just checked out the little book the movie was based on, 'The Christmas Tree' by Julie Salamon. If these were reasonably priced, I'd love to buy about 10 VHS tapes and 10 copies of the book to give to special friends this Christmas.

I agree this is the best movie. I have also looked high and low for it, even got scammed on ebay by someone selling pirated copies off the TV. Watch out--- he also sold them here on Amazon for a while. I did find out that this is now a Disney property. Wrote them by email. They have no plans to release it at this time. I feel a letter writing campaign coming on....

Are you listening Disney???

Last night my wife and I watched the video we taped when this movie was on television ten years ago. I have to agree with all of the reviewers who question (first of all) why it appeared on television only the one time, and (secondly) why it was never released on VHS and DVD. It's a wonderful film, a very nice script, with some excellent performances. Not to mention a story that's heartful without being TOO schmaltzy (it IS a Christmas story, after all). It really does deserve to be a Christmas classic, and Disney (if they are, in fact, the ones who own it) are doing an incredible disservice by not releasing it.

I worked on this movie and when it was aired I was amazed at how great it had turned out. This was Sally's first directoral. I agree that it should be released.

I would be willing to buy the rights from Disney along with a few other investors and perhaps recut it with Sally and release a movie length version for DVD and VHS.

This movie has a sensitivity that is rare -- especially in the TV movie category. I really enjoyed the passionate expressions of a person who feels that trees (and all plants) respond to humans and can be a source of comfort. Julie Harris gives an exquisite performance along with Andrew McCarthy's simple, effective portrayal. I taped this movie, lended to a friend and it was stolen. I would love to have it in my video library again.

This is a movie that should be shown every year at Christmas time. My sister taped this movie when it was shown on television originally, unfortunately the one and only time, and after watching it again, I was able to find out from the credits that it was done by Fogwood Films, put on ABC on December 23, 1996 by Walt Disney Television. Why it has never been shown again is a mystery.
