From the Inside Flap

Mercer Mayer's very popular character stars in a getting-ready-for-Christmas picture book. Little Critter approaches Christmas with the intention of being a good helper. When he makes a mistake, he has a logical explanation. He couldn't wrap the Christmas package because the tape got too sticky. He couldn't buy his parents a present because there were too many toys to look at. He couldn't put up the tree lights because they were just too tangled. Little Critter means well, but every funny illustration shows him as tangled up as the Christmas lights. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

About the Author

MERCER MAYER began writing and illustrating children's books in 1966, and since then, he has published over 300 titles. Readers can open almost any of his award-winning books and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters. Drawing from his own childhood adventures for inspiration, Mayer created one of children’s books most cherished characters, Little Critter. He currently lives in Connecticut. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This book simply makes me smile. You can't help but fall in love with Little Critter and his attempt to make Christmas a success. He tries to bake cookies, but he eats them himself. He tries his hardest to go right to sleep on Christmas Eve, but he is too excited. Thinking he is doing his parents a favor, Little Critter wakes up at 6 AM and brings his new toys upstairs instead of having his parents get out of bed. Mayer's illustrations and fun and colorful. One or two sentences of text are a perfect addition to the pictures. Children will not lose interest in this book because of the short text and appealing color. Mayer's choice to add a special critter (spider, grasshopper, etc.) on each page makes it fun to search for them with children. This is an excellent book to read to young children around the holidays. After reading it, you will want to buy more in the series.

We love Little Critter, and this has a similar theme to most Little Critter books. Little Critter tries to help in his own little-kid like way, but of course runs into little-kid type problems. A great story for Christmastime, or for Little Critter fans year-round. Great way to start discussing with toddlers what went wrong and how to do it better. A fun, lighthearted, well-intentioned Little Critter book. :)

Little Critter has been around for so long and one of the best older stories is "Just For You" where Critter explains how he wanted to do something but there's always a "but." This book definitely takes the same approach but adds in the spirit and holiday of Christmas. I got this book for my son to prepare for the upcoming holiday season and he loves it!

I find this story very cute and funny, I think it is adorable how the little boy tries to do all good things for his parents and he just has the hardest time doing them. I think all children could relate to this story because when Christmas time comes around they want to do all they can because they know Santa is watching and they have to especially good. I would reccomend this book to all ages because I think they would find it cute just as I did.

I love the classic Little Critter books! They bring me back to my childhood and although my daughter is too little to sit through them patiently yet, I know she will enjoy them as much as I did! I have started a collection for her and I have read through them all several times even without her. :)

Exactly what I remember as a kid. The new Little Critter books don't do it for me, so I've been reaching to the oldie but goodie ones for my kiddo. I love them, he loves them, it's a win win. Cute book.

I bought this as a gift for my 34 year old brother. He got this book with its first publishing back in the mid 1980's, it was a book and tape set. He listened to it so much he had it memorized. He decided to "read" the book to his class, well the teacher caught on to him memorizing the book instead of reading it when he skipped a page while turning the pages. He has fond memories of this book so I thought I would replace his long lost favorite book.

A cute book for kids at Christmas. Mercer Mayer always has fun illustrations and little critter is always trying to help but not quite getting it right. I love reading these books with my kids as it shows them they can keep trying and mom and dad will love you no matter what.
