Ellie Lynd is exactly that. She had her heart broken in a dramatic way at a past Christmas. Now she guards her heart even from the man she's fallen for because she has no faith in him or his love. Shunning Christmas is her way of coping with the painful past. When Spencer Brooks proposes, she refuses and suggests they live together. That suggestion is a slap in the face to Spencer. The resulting breakup hurts them both.
Now it's the holidays again, and Ellie is spending the holidays at the historic Roses Inn, purportedly to be haunted, and working on her next novel. When Spencer bumps into her--what a coincidence except it's not--she's forced to confront her feelings for him. As they spend time together, her longing for him increases. Spencer of course has planned all this. He wants to change Ellie's mind.
Spencer is a wonderful hero. He loves and isn't afraid to show it. He's plotted and planned, hoping that Ellie's love for him will eventually tip the balance in his favor. He's the kind of man we all want: fearlessly loving and firmly committed to the woman he loves--even if he must accept her terms for their relationship. But maybe with the help of the inn's resident ghost and her story, he can win it all.
I'll go on record right now as saying this story should be a Hallmark Holiday Movie! It's got everything we love about holiday movies: lush winter setting, likable characters in emotional conflicts, a twist to the story, and a happy ending. Read it. You'll love it too.
E Ayers is one of my favorite authors. In this collection she again invites us into the Montgomery family. This book is awesome!!
I also love the collection because it introduces me to new authors and their wonderful characters.
I can't wait to read more stories from them.
Merry Christmas to all 9f you and thank you for my reading enjoyment! !
I absolutely loved Waking up for Christmas by Jill James. That story reminds me of the movie of George Clooney, The Descendant. Full of emotion and so well-written, you will shed a tear or two.
Christmas at the Granger Inn by Carol DeVaney. Two young lovers reunited ten years later. Sweet romance with a paranormal tweak.
Christmas at the Roses by Susan R. Hughes. Another story of second chances in an Inn inhabited by a ghost. I fell in love with the hero. Reading Susan Hughes is a pleasure.
Not finished yet with the anthology. But I highly recommend it.
