About the Actor
A Colorado native, Christy Smith gained national attention as a participant on the hit CBS series "Survivor." Christy s motto is "Challenge Yourself," and she comes by this naturally. Born three months premature, Christy experienced a hearing loss that left her virtually deaf in both ears. Raised in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley near Aspen, Christy grew fond of the outdoors and nature and learned early on that in order to keep up with her brothers she was going to have to push herself. It wasn't always easy; however, her determination to succeed in a hearing community was much greater than the desire to be in the background. After graduating from a deaf high school in Washington, D.C., Christy enrolled in Gallaudet University and graduated with a Bachelor s degree in sociology/criminology.
