Make the Everyday Epic.
On vacation or in your backyard, capturing epic aerial shots of everyday moments is easy with the Chroma Camera Drone from Horizon Hobby.
Look Like a Pro with SAFE Plus Technology
Perfect for First-Time Pilots. Smart Mode uses Stick Relativity to move the drone in whatever direction the control stick is pushed, no matter which way its nose is pointed. It also creates a SAFE Circle barrier that prevents you from flying too close to yourself or people standing next to you.
AP (Aerial Photography) Mode
For the Experienced Pilot. The drone responds like a conventional RC aircraft without Stick Relativity or the Safe Circle. Response is smooth and predictable so panning and tracking shots look great.
Follow Me Mode*
Your Built-In Copilot. The drone follows you at a distance and altitude you set so you can focus on lining up the perfect shot using the rudder and camera tilt controls.
*Only available on Chroma camera drones that include the ST-10+ controller.
Be the Star of the Show. The drone will follow and keep the camera pointed at whoever is holding the ST-10+ controller. This is a great way to capture yourself in action when no one else is around to fly for you.
*Only available on Chroma camera drones that include the ST-10+ controller.
Safe Landings with the Flip of a Switch. The drone returns itself to the start-up point and lands for you. This is ideal for first-time flyers who aren't quite ready to land themselves. It's also an easy way to regain visual contact if you accidentally lose sight in flight.
Adjustable Flight Boundaries
Stay Legal. Stay Safe. Fly Responsibly. Never fly beyond altitude and distance limits you define. This will help you avoid sensitive airspace and neighbors.
Everything at Your Fingertips.
You don’t need a separate smart device with the ST-10+ controller. Everything you need, including the camera controls and a touch-screen video display, is built right in.
- Large, 5 ½ inch touch-screen display with intuitive Android interface.
- Displays live video and real-time telemetry info like speed, altitude and battery voltage.
- Clearly marked switches and buttons.
- Super-simple flight and camera controls.
- Left slider switch for adjusting camera tilt.
- Right slider switch for adjusting drone speed.

Top Customer Reviews
As far as the handling goes, it works very well in all modes. Very stable and easily controllable, predictable.
The camera system, on the other hand, is not that great. As far as video stability goes, it is rock solid. Pretty amazing actually. The resolution is quite good as well (1080p). Where the problems come in is with the color and FPV.
First, and least of the cons is the color. Blues tend to be a bit oversaturated or the sky is blown out white. If there is any sun, especially nearing dusk, the yellow that is cast is overwhelming and needs to be edited down to be watchable. Second, and the deal breaker for me is the FPV distance. Horizon Hobby claims 1800' LOS on the video transmission but I get about 150' and video on the controller is lost. It is choppy from 100-150'. The unit will still control as normal and record fine but not really useful if you cant see what you are filming. Even being 40' away if I fly over my roof to the back yard, the video is gone. I have used this unit in many places and the outcome is always the same.
In conclusion, I am disappointed in this unit and will likely dump it and get a DJI Phantom 4.
To be fair, the uploaded video has been degraded by amazon, the resolution is far better. This is meant to illustrate the colors.
Out of the box, everything seems well packaged, and for the most part comes assembled and ready to fly. There are however, a couple of items to note.
#1. The body, GPS mast, propellers landing gear etc... are made of light weight plastics. Probably durable enough with careful use, but I have concerns with rough landings. That's the bad. The good? Horizon Hobby seems to have every single component for this thing available as a replacement.
#2. I asked here on Amazon EXPLICITLY if the gimbal was adjustable for cameras such as the SJCam SJ4000, and SJ5000. I got a simple one word answer of Yes. That was simply NOT TRUE. I am NOT going to fly a $500.00 GoPro Hero 4 Black on a $350.00 drone. Just not going to happen. The answer I got would have been MUCH more useful if they would have been a bit more verbose. Yes an SJCam SJ4000 will fit the gimbal. It is a tight fit, but it does work. No, it does not adjust for width or height to accomodate the larger body of the SJ5000. Okay no problem. Just irritiating.
#3. Aftermarket support for gimbals is abysmal. It would appear that most aftermarket drone gimbals are for DJI products. A pity too. The gimbal attachment system on this Chroma is a great design. Makes taking the gimbal on / off a piece of cake.
#4. Documentation is typical of almost any Chinese built product (although I am not certain of country of origin, chances are this thing is Chinese). Wording is odd at best, and important details are left out entirely. There is a weird clip that looks like a hair clip that screws onto a bracket on the controller for holding a smart phone. But no instructions on what direction it goes on or how it works, not even a mention. You are left to figure it out on your own.
My reasoning for buying this particular drone over others is experience with a friends Chroma, although his has the ST10+ transmitter. I expect mine to fly much the same way. Easy to operate, reasonably trouble free, and at a price point that isn't a major punch in the gut. It is features and build quality wise on part with the Yuneec Typhoon, and DJI Phantom 3 drones. This one seems to fly a lot more stable than the Typhoons I have been around, on par with the Phantom, One thing to note is it isn't exactly a fast drone. Maybe 25 - 30 mph. Not sure to be honest, but I won't be using the follow me function from an automobile either.
Initial charge of the battery took as advertised about an hour. And like most first run Chromas my battery is according to Horizon Hobby, mislabelled with the 5400 ma/h instead of 6200 ma/h rating. But oh well. The charger is a bit odd in my experience. But seems to function well. Too many small pieces to this for my comfort. There is a gizmo in the box with 2 alligator clips in what looks like a battery adapter. Not sure but I think it is for charging from a 12v auto battery(?).
I got it registered, charged up, and ready to fly, now I just need time off of work when it is light out to actually fly it. Will run without the camera and gimbal to protect them as I get used to the drone, then will start shooting aerial video with it.
So long story short. Pretty good drone with some minor annoyances.
-Light Weight plastic parts. Might be a non issue. Not sure.
-Non adjustable gimbal. Really? I can see having it for one category of camera, but one make / mfg is just lame. The engineers need to do a better job on this one.
-Poor documentation. I am just sick and tired of companies releasing products on the public with such poor documentation. Can't they hire somebody that speaks English as their native language to write the English documentation? Preferably someone that understands the technology!
-I am sure there is a reason for it, but the overly complex charger is just weird.
Flew great right out of the box and I was confidant enough to take it to 300 feet first flight. The controls are easy and intuitive. The camera is super stable and works like a champ.
I also made myself a custom carry on case with the help of MCM.
Love this drone and can't wait to take it to Hawaii next week!
