I have had this knife for five or six years, and the only issue I've had is that the small red insert on one side of the handle came off. It's purely an appearance issue, and had I been paying attention at the time I'm sure I could have glued it back on.

As others have said, the knife is extremely light and takes an edge sharper than just about anything I've ever used. It's possible that folks reporting that it has a "non-stick" coating are correct, but I don't really notice that.

Bottom line: this knife replaced the 10" Sabatier I'd been using for a decade previously as my general-purpose knife. It's not a substitute for a cleaver, but used properly it seems like it will last forever.

By far the best knife I have. All of my knives have been Wusthof's and this one retired all of them. Don't get me wrong Wusthof's are great knives. But this one is is lighter, easier to sharpen, stays sharp longer and is so much more comfortable to hold. The handle has a unique ergonomic design that is fatter in the middle which perfectly contours to the hand. The balance is absolutely perfect. Plus they are forged in the Japanese style without a bolster which does nothing but get in the way. Meaning you can use the entire length of the knife all the way to the end of the heel. The titanium coating is just icing on the cake. It not only makes the blade look beautiful but also protects it from ever rusting. These knives are truly stainless! Any uncoated knives can and will rust. Stainless just means it's resistant to rust. These knives ( with the exception of the cutting edge itself ) are rust proof Period. Also the titanium doesn't react to the chemicals in food so it won't alter their favors or cause things like lettuce to brown faster. As far as the coating helping it glide through food easier. That's mostly B.S. It doesn't seem to be any better or worse to me. Except when the blade is wet I've noticed that water makes the blade very slick. The only real complaint I had about these knives ( I have a Santoku and a pareing knife as well.) is that the little red rubber logos on the handles won't stay on. You could probably take them off and glue them back on with a stronger adhesive. If you're worried about the cosmetics of the knife. Personally I just took all of them off and used a soldering iron to cut little groves into the handles. (A trick I used to do with my bass picks.) and then hit it with a little sandpaper to smooth out the grooves to give them a non slip grip. You can find cheaper knives with titanium coatings but they won't be KASUMI. What makes these knives special is that they are KASUMI and that means superb quality and craftsmanship.

I am absolutely in love with this knife.

I initially bought this knife to replace my standard issue mercer chef's knife that I got in culinary school.

It's light-weight, well-balanced, and ergonomic. After cutting thirty-something onions at work today,my hands didn't feel any fatigue. And it held its edge so well I was still able to cleanly cut through a sheet of paper afterwards.

The only downside to this knife is that due to how this knife is curved you have to be mindful of what cutting motion you are doing. When cutting into food it's best to use a rocking motion with this knife. If you try to do a straight up and down, chopping motion, it will feel like the knife is extremely dull.

I was very pleased with this knife it works very well and feels good in the hand. the titanium coating really helps food not to stick and build up on the blade. the blade comes razor sharp. the only downside if there is a down side to this knife is that the handle is made of a plastic material but it does for very well to the hand and provide plenty of grip.

the knife is beautiful, the picture does not do it justice. very light and the grip is smooth. be very careful when cleaning the knife to not scratch the coating. the knife is japanese so it is very thin which is great for some cutting but not all. overall, great knife.

My husband actually bought me a smaller Kasumi knife as a Christmas gift. It is only about 5" but it has a blade shape of a chef's knife, so a review under this knife seems to be the best fit. And I felt the need to review it since I am so attached--one could even say loyal to it. First of all, I had no idea that these Kasumi knives were so expensive. So I had no bias. We have some decent heavy German (Wusthof) knives that are good quality, so I didn't even understand why my husband bought me a knife. I didn't use it much at first, but slowly over time I started reaching for it. Eventually I noticed it was the only one I reached for. I asked myself why and realized it is because it is strong and sharp, but most of all it is LIGHT and fits my hand so comfortably. I would however like a bigger knife as well, and I'm telling you I am eyeing this one. I wish it weren't so expensive or I would have bought it already!
