Wow, I'm so disappointed! Talk about a lack of backing up your product. I have this bag and yes it was $180, it was purchased at Christmas time. All of the reflective material on the straps is peeling off in long strips. I called Chrome customer service to see about a possible replacement or fix under warranty and I was told by MATT that they don't cover the reflective material under warranty. If they are going to use the material it should be covered. This bag has been gently used and there is no reason except factory defect or bad design for this to happen. Not my fault. It looks awful and in addition it takes away the safety factor of the reflective material on the bag. I'm not a happy or satisfied customer. For the price of this bag it should las longer than 8 months of gentle use. I would not buy another chrome product. Giving the benefit of the doubt I even called MATT back at Chrome customer service to double check before writing this review and was given the same response. It's really sad that they don't stand behind their products.

My old bag was an Aerostich bag that I used for a good six years. Great product, so this one came with high expectations. I just wanted to try something a bit different and with more organizer pockets and options to it.

The differences are that the Chrome bag has multiple pockets and organizer features as well as a padded laptop sleeve internally. The Aerostich is just a basic open bag. I prefer the Chrome design for my uses.

The Chrome bag strap is designed a bit less flexibly but more purposefully. You have to wear the bag high on your back for the strap padding to work well and the load to be evenly distributed. I've grown to really like this. I also find it quite easy to swing the bag from back to front, which I use constantly when boarding various transit systems getting up and down and packing into crowded cars.

If you primarily carry a messenger slung low as a shoulder bag, you may not like the strap design of this bag. It's truly designed to be worn high and snug and it does that perfectly.

The seat-belt like buckle on the strap is really neat too. It makes it easy to just pop the buckle and set the bag down. I'm a really tall guy with long arms and lifting a messenger over my head to take it off is a pain so I use the quick release all the time. It's a very heavy car seatbelt type buckle, it's not going to slip or go anywhere.

The coolest laptop bag that is humanly possible. I do some 1-3 day trips for work and for a day or two, I can get away with just this bag. It expands nicely and can fit a couple of changes of clothes along with my laptop and some light paperwork. I love the look, the craftsmanship and the attention to detail in this bag. It is extremely comfortable. On longer trips, it's very nice to have a hand's free bag when you are carrying a couple of other things.

I got one of these about a year ago. It's a bit on the masculine side (umm...I'm a girl, it was a gift). I get tons of comments, all positive, all from guys. I like the fact that it's basically one big big bag you can throw stuff in. The seat belt style buckle is cool but honestly just adds weight, so it's all about the cool factor. After a year's regular use, I find the interior rubber stuff is starting to flake off a bit. There is no padding, which is ok with me but something to be aware of. I find it only works for me if I use it over one shoulder (my right), not the other, due to the way it's constructed. But, I'm more of a backpack girl, that may be the norm with messenger bags. Since I only carry it from my car to a building, not an issue for me.

I'm not sure why one of the other reviewers here says that this is basically just "one big bag you can throw stuff into" because this is actually one of the few messenger bags you can get that isn't just composed of one big compartment (I hear the MW Rummy and Timbuktu Especial is also quite good in this regard). There are actually loads of pockets on the front, in the middle, and a zippered pocket in the back, in addition to the large main compartment you can throw stuff into. There is also a laptop sleeve built into the rear of the main compartment, but unless you have a giant 15"+ laptop, this sleeve will most likely too big. Unlike bike messengers, most people who use these types of bags for commuting will likely carry lots of small items, pens, etc. that require organization into smaller compartments, and for this reason, this has got to be one of the best messenger bag for bike-commuters. The broad padded strap is as comfortable as messenger bag straps go. If I'm carrying more than my daily commuting load, I'll opt for my rack+pannier. As for the buckle, you'll either love it or hate it. I for one think it's very convenient and use it every time I take my bag off. You do need watch out for where the male end of the buckle falls when you hit the latch, since it's basically a small but heavy piece of metal attached to a seat belt strap that'll swing and hit whatever's immediately behind/next to you.

I recently bought this bag used on ebay, and so far I like it. Other reviews have highly criticized it, but I don't see why. The main compartment is enough to carry a few books (or packages if you actually use it as a bike messenger, its original purpose). I like the laptop compartment, my 15.6" laptop fits like a glove, although on Chrome's website they SAY it can fit a 17" one. Another reviewer said the two side-by-side compartments on the front are too small to fit much, but I can fit my computer brick charger and two other device chargers in them, so I find them very useful. Lastly there's an organization pocket between the other two, which I've found fits all my little things well enough (pens, cell phone, etc.). Oh, and there's a document pocket on the back that I think I'll use often. I'd say I'll wait and see on the build quality of this bag, but the person I bought it from had it for 2 years and I see no visible wear from it. Overall, this seems to be a great bag.
